Belly Button "stump" bleeding???

My daughter is 10 days old and today I noticed some red blood on her diaper and on her outfit. The blood is coming from her belly button stump, which looks like it is starting to pull away on one side. Is this normal to be bleeding like this? My son's never bled, so this is new to me.

    My DS's stump did the same thing. It also smelled awful. We took him to his first checkup though and the dr. didn't say anything about it, and it fell off a couple of days later. It seems to be fine now.

    I freaked out when I noticed this with my son, but pediatrician reassured me that as long as it isn't dripping blood a little spotting is normal. Be sure and keep alcohol on it and move it around gently to get it all in there.

    ours is doing the same thing..my neighbor who is also the pediatric on call nurse at our peds office looked at it for us and said it looks okay, just use alcohol on it, and call her if it seems red or irritated or starts to smell...

    My DD's did that for a couple of days before it came off.
