Sewing thread

What brands and where do you buy your sewing thread? DH bought a pack from Walmart or Target and it looks like it will tear after a washing or two. I've never had to buy thread before (used what I was given by my mother) and would like to get something that is better quality. TIA!

The first thing they told us in my high school sewing class was "Never buy Walmart thread." 

I like Coats and Clark. You used to be able to get it at Walmart but you can get it at pretty much any fabric store like Joanns or Hancocks. 

ETA: It's the walmart *brand* that sucks, not any thread you buy at walmart.

Well I have bought most of mine at Walmart and it's Coats and Clark so I guess I'm not much help :-)  We don't have ANY sewing places within 20 mins so it's either that, online, or stock up when I'm on a big shopping trip farther away.

I've gotten mine at Joann's... I believe it's Gutermann from a quick look online.

Gutterman.  My machine doesnt like coats & clark.

i buy coats and clark and get it at walmart.  there aren't any other places for sewing stuff within a 40 mile radius of me so that's my only choice lol.

Gutterman.  My local sewing shop told me not to buy C&C.

gutterman or mettler. Both my local quilting shops carry one or both, as does JoAnn. In a pinch I will use coats and clark.
