I LOVE MY NAME - Sarah.
But, I have 3 major issues:
1) My name doesn't really have a nickname so I always thought that when I gew up I would name my kids names that would have at least one nickname that they could use. I was sometimes jealous of others' nicknames.
2) I have to spell my name everytime I tell someone my name - or say "with an H". Or people just spell it how they want.
3) I was always one of many Sara(h)s in every group I have been in. (That didn't bother me most of the time - I just made sure I was the dominant one.)
Do you love/hate your name? Would you recommend your own name to a new soon-to-be parent? (I would definately suggest Sarah!)
Re: What do you think of YOUR name?
i don't prefer it, but it's not horrible
Crystal
I am glad it's spelled this way, but that's about all I like about it. It's super 80's, and kinda stripperish.
My middle name is Marie. So plain and prairie like, what a combo!? lol
I hated my name as a kid. I don't know why, as it's not an awful name and I was the only Kristen in my class ever. I actually like it a lot now, especially since there's a funny backstory that ties into my DH.
My parents were big "Dallas" fans back in the day and my biomom desperately wanted to name me after the character Suellen. My dad's mom threw a fit and refused to have a granddaughter with that name and tried to force them to name me after her and my other grandmother. While they backed down on Suellen, they didn't give in to Gertrude Virginia (THANK GOD!) and decided to name me after another character on the show, Kristin. (Not sure why they changed the spelling). Kristin was the character who shot J.R. DH's first and middle initials are J.R.
Edit: After reading the PPs, I have to say I hate my middle name with a passion. It's Marie and it's way too plain and overused in my family.
My name is Megan, and I think it's a pretty good name. Not too unique, not too common.
But I agree that the lack of NN's bugged me. I did go by Meg for awhile, but it just didn't seem to fit. Now I love Elizabeth because of the many, many NN's that come from it.
Mine is Kerry.
I've always had mixed feelings because it is unisex, but it's not too bad IMO because it's not heard of everyday. I really don't mind it.
"If you're going to be two-faced, at least make one of them pretty." - Marilyn Monroe
My name is Ashia...pronounced asia.
Obviously the downside is that it was never pronounced correctly. But, I loved growing up with a unique name and being the only one in my class and still get great compliments about it.

Name: Marissa Jehan
Pros: I was the only Marissa in my class though there were a lot of Melissa', never a ton of spelling errors, childhood nickname was Missy.
Cons: I was named for Jehan Sadat, not the most American connotation and most of the time people think I am saying "John"
Kelsey
I liked my name growing up. I was the only Kelsey in my high school. Now that I'm in the work force, I feel like my name isn't as resume friendly as say an Elizabeth or a Sarah.
I tend to prefer classic, traditional, time-tested names.
My middle name is Cristina, it's the name I've always gone by and I have always loved it! I have never has any other Cristina's in any of my classes, surprisingly, and no one has problems pronouncing. Spelling is an issue with people but it's a link to my heritage (I'm spanish) and I enjoy it that way.
My first name, unfortunately, is Yolanda. I hate it with a burning passion and I am having it legally changed. So, don't ever name your kid Yolanda!
Heather
I go back and forth, currently I like my name
ETA: I never knew a lot of Heather's growing up so I was surprised to discover it was a top 10 name the year I was born.
My middle name is Maria which is difficult because everyone thinks it is Marie. I work for a huge company so I have to use my f m and l name in my email address and always have to make sure people hear the "a".
Kassie Karina
1. Like Kassie wish they would have spelt it with a C.
2. I hated being asked if it was short for Cassidy or Cassandra. "Nope just Kassie with a K"
3. Love Karina and would have preferred it to be my first name.
4. My initials before I got married were KKK. THAT was annoying growing up.

My name is Amy and growing up I hated my name. Mostly because I was one of many Amy's in my class. There were 5 Amy's in my girl scout troop in elementary school....so a hugely common name.
The upside is no ever spells it or pronounces it incorrectly.
Karen
I was the only one in my class and didn't really meet anyone with it until I was in my early 20's and she was much older.
No nicknames but I like it just fine.
Don't know that I would reccomend it these days but that is only because I have yet to meet a little girl named Karen
Caitlin
I like it less with every Katelynn, Caytlinne, and Kaitlyn I meet. Names for gggma Kate, but I wish I had an Italian name (I am 3/4 Italian, 1/8 Irish, 1/8 French-Canadian ? identify as Italian-Am).

I actually really like my name even though I was one of many growing up. If I remember correctly I was one of 5 in my graduating class in HS. Which when there are over 400 kids in your class is really not that bad.
I also at times have to spell my name...I guess in the time that we are in now with the youneek spellings it happens. Also I really did not have NN either for my name...I guess you can call me Kel, but I never really go by it. It's 95% of the time Kelly.
I would totally recommend it to a soon-to-be-parent.
Mine is Katherine and I love it.
Growing up I thought it was a little boring, but I've grown to love it and now I'm thankful because I like classic names! I've always gone by Katie which I like also and it suits me well. I like having a formal name and a nickname. The only down side of going by Katie is that there were a lot of Katie's at my high school. I was 1 of 3 in my close group of friends, so I was often referred to as "Katie L" or "Katie [last name]".
Ditto and Ditto. My middle name is Lynne so said all together it sounds totally rednecky! Awesome!
I'll also annoys me that just by seeing my name on paper, you can guess my age +/- 5 years.

Elizabeth
Hated it growing up and have always gone by Liz. Now I appreciate it soooooo much
!
Julie
I didn't like my name as a kid at all, but I had a lot of self-esteem issues in general. After I got out of college into the real world, I began to really like my name and today I love it.
This! I hate being asked if my name is short for Trisha or Patricia. It's just Tisha, with a short I sound, not Teesha.

I never loved my name but didn't hate it either. I always thought it sounded awkward with my maiden name. "Christy" not short for anything. Just Christy.
not too uncommon but not too many of them either. 3 in graduating class of 400.
Hated that everyone assumed it was short for Christine and Christina
Disliked so many variations in the spelling too. When giving some one my info, I immediately spell it out for them.
I would never use it for a kid but would maybe use Christine as a mn if I was at a loss for a selection that flowed.

Andrea
It's fine, I was never one of several in my class but occasionally met another one here or there. I love my nn now, but I HATED it in middle school (Andi).
It is ridiculous how many people have problems spelling my name. I think it's why I'm such a stickler for the correct spelling of names. Seriously-I've seen my name spelled wrong so many ways, and all you have to do is sound it out.
Here too. MN Ann I always hear the stripper thing about Crystal on here but NEVER thought that until I read it here, nor did I hear it.
I love mine Brita. I like that's it not common but not hard to figure out.
Growing up I did get into a few arguments convincing people my real name was not Brittany. It was Brita.
Older people sometimes don't understand it. I don't get many water filter comments; sometimes I have to say like the water filter for people to understand it.
I never met another one until I was 18 and she was 75 and from Norway. I've met a few since moving to MN.
Lauren Jenine
I absolutely love my name and middle name and always have.
My name is Rheana and I have always liked it.
My only beef is with how my parents spelled it. The way they have it, it trips people up and more often than not they pronounce it Ree-Na, when it's actually Ree-Anna. I wish they had gone with either Ree-Anna or Rhianna, but since they couldn't agree they compromised and came up with the spelling I now have. At one point my dad even considered having it legally changed to Rheanna, just because the pronunciation issue bothered him so much.
I love my name, I always get complimented on it, and I adore that I am the only person with my name that I have ever personally come across. It's definitely influenced my own naming style.
Jessie Lee
I like it enough but hate the misspellings and people thinking it is Jessica.
I always felt bad for the Jens and Melissas when I was growing up. They all had to go by their first and last name, or at least last initial. I am trying to avoid that with my kids. So, with my name, I liked that there weren't ever others in my class/ group, but I hate that no one ever knows how to spell it.
Lindsey, Lindsay, Lyndsay, Lyndsey, Lynsi, Lyndsi, Linsey...
I also hate when people assume I go by Lynn. No one calls me that more than once! LOL
Overall I like it. It fits me.
I'm a Sarah (mn Jane) but never had to deal with the issue of it being too popular at my school/in my town. I knew 3 or 4 other Sarahs my whole life (before adulthood) but they were all different ages, went to different schoosl, or were in different classes than I was.
I probably didn't actually start liking my name until I was in highschool or college. Growing up, I thought it was too old fashioned. Now, I love it, and if it wasn't my own name, I would definitely have had it on my "list" for girls.
I think it's interesting that there were a couple of people in this thread who had really common names and therefore tried to pick something unique for their kids AND people who grew up with different/unique names who make sure to name their kids something popular/classic/common. I guess all names come with their "challenges".
