My poor baby's nose is congested :-(. We've been previously using the good ol suction ball to clean her nose. Since her nose is congested, I busted out the NoseFrida this morning and whoa, that bad boy really works! lol I am a believer!! lol. It looks/sounds gross (reminds me of the netipot) but it really does work. It's a mommy must have, IMO!
Anyway, do you have any other suggestions to help relieve baby's congestion? This is the first time that she has gotten sick. Poor baby has been up pretty much every couple of hours last night . She sleeps through the night now so I know something was wrong if she's waking up almost every hour. She was probably having a hard time breathing through her nose and want her paci. I know colds are no big deal but I am bringing her to the pedi today to make sure everything else is okay.

Thanks. I'll get one today!! I assume I can buy this OTC?
I am a NoseFrida believer as well. A few of my nurse friends recommended it, but it wasn't until A had her 1st cold that I decided to give it a try. Seriously amazing! it does seem a little gross at first, but once you see how it works, you know it really isn't.
My pedi told us about the saline drops too & a humidifier (or letting the shower get all steamy in the bathroom) helps too.
Hope E feels better soon!!!
Thanks! I just talked to her pedi who happened to be on call. She did tell us about the saline drops and humidifier. She also said to do her last feeding in the steamy bathroom.
The NoseFrida DOES rock, doesn't it? I love that thing! It gets out three times more than the bulb aspirator.
I agree with pp about the saline drops. I put a little in each nostril, then suck with the NoseFrida, then usually put one more drop in afterwards. Sitting in the steamy bathroom helps with it gets really bad, too.
We use the Little Noses one, but there are a ton of kinds out there. Yes, you can buy OTC. You can even make your own! Our doctor gave us instructions. I can email to you. But I'd rather buy than make it! LOL!

I've always wondered if that really worked. We use the suction ball that we got from the hospital and that works well. The suction balls that you can just buy at babies r us, etc. are useless. We too use the saline drops and they work wonders.
Hopefully E feel better in no time.
Yeah, that's what we had been using too prior to today. Once you've tried the nosefrieda, you won't go back to the suction ball! :-P.
I had never even heard of that thing until someone else posted about it on this board a while ago! the bulb we got from the hospital works well but maybe you're right - once you try it you won't go back :P
anyway, here is a recipe for the saline rinse - we don't see reason to buy one when it's so easy, but that's just us. the instructions on administration are for how to DIY but if you are rinsing a baby then you'll want to lay her on her side and one of you can hold her head while the other does the rinsing. take your bulb and suck up a small amount of saline into the bulb, then squirt it into the "up" nostril really fast/hard and then immediately aspirate from the "down" nostril. DH said if you don't get at least a little bit of blood then you aren't doing it vigorously enough. that's the best way to clear up congestion and help them breathe. it sucks and they hate it of course but at least they can breathe better afterwards...
oh and i hope she feels better soon! poor thing

I'm a convert now too. I just ordered one earlier this week.
As for other stuff - I always use a humidifier. J's room is pretty small so it's totally effective. Ours has a spot for oil so I put eucalyptus oil in it.
Sometimes I leave a plate with half of an onion and crushed garlic near it too which helps break up the congestion. Same idea as the old fashioned onion poultice (which I haven't done).
Jack also gets a child version of herbal cold care tea - but I didn't do that until J was +10mo old or so.
