Kind of off topic .... car issue

DH and I purchased a 2010 Honda CR-V EX in June 2010. We held off on buying thee xtended warranty from the dealer figuring we could get it cheaper elsewhere. ( i want to buy it because I have an Acura (owned by Honda) and the transmission went at 5 years 58k miles - it was a $3,000 bill covered b/c I had an extended warranty).

Anyway, I did my homework and found a Honda Care Plan and read the fine print. We plan on running the car into the ground. We are debating between 7 yr/80,000 miles (costing $560.00)  or 8yr/100,00 miles (costing $830.00). We estimate anywhere from 6500 miles to 10,000 a year. Which one would you go with?

  • I'd probably pay the extra $270 and go with the 8yr/100,000 mile warranty. My Odyssey transmission blew between 90 and 100,000 miles. I was glad to not get stuck with that bill!

  • I've got a 2003 CRV with almost 89k miles and haven't had any issues with it yet, if that helps at all.

It seems that the people who I talk to who have been "screwed" in the past with cars would get an extended warranty.  Those who have not had the "pleasure" say not to bother.
