Lily was finally transferred on Tuesday. She was scoped by the ENT's on Wednesday. They found some granulation in Lily's airway which they easily removed. They inserted a smaller ET tube and are giving her a topical anti-inflamatory. The ENTs said that everything else about her airway looked good. They are going to extubate her middle of next week - and allow her some time to recover from the granulation extraction. An ENT will supervise the extubation to see if her vocal cords are working correctly - If they aren't moving they could be adding to her airway obstruction and we may be looking at a trache. But, it could just be that the granulation was the cause of her breathing difficulty. If that is the case then she has a very good chance of a successful extubation.
I was really nervous about her transfer, but overall I think it has been good for her. The hospital isn't as stringent about parent's hand washing as our old hospital was, and it sucks that she has to be in a pod style room - open to many forms of stimulation. But, they are being aggressive with her treatment and she has made good progress while she has been there. Some other improvements that have been made since she's been there - They have risen the top of her isollete; she hasn't bradied once (this will probably change when they extubate); and her O2 percentage has been at 21 % for the past day and a half. They are also thinking about extubating to Nasal Cannuals instead of to the Cpap.
Thank you for your kind words as we were looking at a scary transition. I'll keep you updated.
