1st Trimester

Curious if anyone else has felt this way?

My husband and I went for an ultrasound this past Monday.  It was the beginning of my sixth week.

I was hoping to see something but all we saw was the gestational sac.  Anyone else have an ultrasound early and had this happen.

I just want to make sure that this is common sometimes.  My fifth week I had a ton of cramping/aching and now this week hardly anything.  Just makes me worry when I do have symptoms but then I worry when I don't.  Past couple of days I haven't felt pregnant. Well just tired.

Hoping someone could shed some light.

  • I had an ultra sound at 6 weeks also. I had just found out I was pregnant and was experiencing really bad cramps and even spotted the day I saw the doctor, but everything was completely normal.

The ultrasound didn't show anything besides the gestational sac and my doctor informed me that the cramping was normal and that if the blood isn't bright red then it's probably just old blood leaving the body. After that visit the spotting stopped completely but the cramping continued. I ended up getting sick during week 7 and had to go to the hospital and it was then that I got to see a heartbeat. The doctor saw me again at week 9 and by then the gestational sac that once was now looked like a little peanut with a heartbeat and we were even able to see it move!!

I'm 10 weeks right now about to hit 11 weeks and the cramping and spotting have gone away completely. Every now and then I'll feel a slight cramp but the doctor assured me it's just your body getting used to everything expanding and growing. Besides that I'm not sick, I don't crave food and all in all don't feel really pregnant at all. Like you, I get worried all the time but after the ultrasound I feel a little better and what really put me at ease is that my doctor said, if anything were to happen you'd of had some symptoms or complications- i.e. bleeding, etc.

This is my first pregnancy so I am no expert but I hope I can help just a little bit. Just try to relax and everything should be fine. I had a tendency to google everything and read all the discussion boards here which can be quite scary at times. If you saw the gestational sac and confirmed you're pregnant and have had no bleeding or major complications then chances are things are okay!! Good luck!

  • I'm now 8 weeks and 1 day pregnant.  I had an u/s done when I was 5 and a half weeks pregnant.  The doctor told me that he saw a yoke sac but I didn't see it in the u/s.  He told me to follow up in a week to see how things are moving along. I was really worried because I just had a m/c in Dec2010.

The next week i had another u/s and the change from one week to the next was huge.  I saw the yoke sac clearly and the little bean and also got to hear and see its little heart beat.  You could be a little off on the dates so you would be surprized at how much things change from one week to another.  I was told to follow up in 3 weeks.  And I can't wait untill that day.

I had crampiness during the first couple weeks.  And I still have some twinges here and there when I bend a certain way or sit for to long.  The doctor told me this is totally normal.  I would say not to worry but I know I did.

I hope that you get to have another u/s soon to calm your fears.

  • Thank you all for replying. I feel much better now that I have heard your stories.  Can't wait to have my ultrasound Tuesday.  Maybe we will here the heartbeat!

    Have a great weekend everyone!
