Now I'm a HUGE Harry Potter nerd and in no way am going to name my child Narcissa. But I can't help but LOVE the name and if I really had it my way, I would totally name my child that, go by Cissy for short. Everyone I have told that to HATES it, which it's definitely a DIFFERENT name and I also understand the narcissism point.
I'm just curious as to how many people, IF anyone, likes the name like I do.
Don't forget, I'm not planning on naming my child this. This is out of sheer curiosity.
Re: Narcissa
I know someone who named his daughter this. I never made the connection till now.

Hate it, just because of the connotation of narcissism.
But I think it would make an awesome, awesome name for a pet.
And I think it makes a fabulous evil alter-ego name, for Halloween, make-believe, etc.

This. I wasn't aware of the Harry Potter association.
Narcissa = Narcissism.
Google the Greek mythology about Narcissus. It`s considered rude to give someone narcissism flowers, because it means that you think that they were narcissistic. I would not be able to get past the negative meaning behind it.
Yeah, it was definitely not meant to be a flattering name in the book - it's not just a coincidence that it is evocative of "narcissism." For that reason alone, I would never consider the name for a child.
That being said, I just plain dislike it as a name, even without the negative connotation. The "Nar" is very hard sounding.
I love it too! For the same reason! HP is the best!!!
Also, Cissy is a cute nickname for a 2nd sib.
Like PP, I could never use it with the narcissism connection.
JKR's name choices are great - Bellatrix (Belladonna Plant - AKA deadly nightshade). So clever!
I love Narcissa ! I have a co-worker named this and she is one of the most amazing people I know
Nothing but good vibes for me coming from this name.

I think the name sounds beautiful, but I totally understand the negative connotations behind it. I thought of Harry Potter when I seen this thread too! My love for those books has caused me to keep the name Hermione off my baby name list, although I think I may throw it back on for baby #2 or 3.
Also, I came across the name Hedwig in my baby name book, it means "great suffering during war", talk about foreshadowing.
