XP: Update on Tyler (and a bit of me)

I copied this from my month board...Tyler is completely off of any oxygen help at all. He is breathing at room air. He is still in an isolette and could be for a little while longer. They are slowly reducing the temp so that he can learn to regulate himself. He maintained his temp while "Kangarooing" with me for 2.5 hours yesterday! He is peeing and pooping regularly and tolerating a full feed of 22ccs of milk! He has grown from 2.2 pounds to 2.6 (and maybe more as of last night)... and from 14.5" long to 15" long. The only slight issue that they have seen with him is a small lesion on his brain. They are monitoring him... but he is doing everything they ask of him... responding to sound, light, touch etc. So they aren't overly concerned... they are just going to keep an eye on it and follow up with an MRI when he is discharged from the hospital. So, here's hoping to it being nothing! The best news of all is that they transferred him from the Level I care NICU in Boston to the Level II NICU in my town today! So he will be so close to home, it will make visiting him so much easier (and cheaper). I am so happy that they felt comfortable and confident that he could make that trip and live in a smaller, less intense, environment... at only 20 days old! I have already seen him 3 times today! :) A tiny update on me (I am WAY less important than Ty!): My BP is now steadily on the low side (still taking the meds.. but skipping them when it's low). I have a follow-up appointment tomorrow and most likely they will make adjustments to the meds... hopefully, the pre-e is going away and I am getting back to a regular BP on my own.  So I guess overall... things are moving in a positive direction for everyone. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers still... we are no where near out of the woods!

  • So great to hear this update!  I hope Ty keeps on growing bigger and stronger by the day.  :-D  With DS1, I was on BP meds for a few weeks after pre-e and then was able to get off of them.  I hope you're able to get off them soon too, good luck at your appointment tomorrow!

  • Thanks for the update. T&P!
  • So happy to hear about the progress! Breathing room air is impressive! Most babies around here (Denver is a mile high!) go home on O2, and it wasn't until he was 6 months old that he could keep his sats up without extra oxygen.

I'm glad your pre-e is getting better, and that your baby will be closer! Here's to a smooth journey to coming home!
