Cloth Diapering

I have a GM question that hasnt been answered yet...

I was reading the post below about stragglers, production errors, seconds, etc...and it occured to me: What does GM do with her seconds? I've yet to see a seconds sale from her (in my diaper-world time), and I know shes not perfect so she has to have some.  Does she have a hoarder collection of seconds somewhere?

    She said she donates them...

  • She doesn't sell them.  I think she donates them to the cloth diaper foundation.

  • ::snort::  Hoarder collection.  Well she *is* asking for NIPs of her older stuff.

I really have no answer to this.  Anyone?

She said this on her FB page

  • Does she also donate good cuts? I know that could sound snarky since there's no tone on the 'net but I promise I don't mean it that way.

  • hmm, well thats cool, at least she's donating them, although that seems like a lot of diapers, and I don't see very many go up on the CDF auctions. Maybe I just don't look there enough.

Yeah, I almost fell out of my chair when I saw her asking mamas to help her find NIPs of her own prints.

  • I hate to be ugly but I think she must have a low standard for seconds. Ive received several NIP that I would consider to be seconds. I know they are handmade and all but my buggy in particular has twisted leg elastic and a snap completely out of line.

ETA- And now that I think about it- I'm not sure how she could even have seconds. She pre-sells them so if she sold 20 and has fabric for only 20 then each one has to go out regardless of quality or she has to issue a refund.

That would really piss me off at the price you pay. I mean, like you said, we all know they are handmade, but you expect a certain quality at that price...

Did you email her about the diaper you received?

re eta:  She probably underestimates her production run.  That's why there are stragglers each stocking.

  • she donates them to the cloth diaper foundation and she underestimates what she has so thats why there are stragglers.  I would email about the messed up diaper though.  For the price, there shouldn't be any defects.

No. I let it sit NIP for a few days while I was mad about it and then got over it and put it OTB. I didnt really want to send it back and wait for another one (or none at all if she had no extras). I probably should have but its still functional so...

    Good point about the underestimating.

  • She sends them all off to Miracle Diapers.  There was actually some drama awhile back with a scammer who was given a bunch of GM Miracle Diapers (which you are expected to return if you aren't going to use them anymore) and sold them off and when everyone received them, they saw the MD tag on them.

  • I think MD is now the Cloth Diaper Foundation. I think.

I remember when they were going under and then a name change.

ding ding ding we have a winner -- quality and CS at the Goodmama has gone way down in recent years, and this is why.  Supposedly she donates "seconds" but as to what she considers a second, who knows.  Since shallow snaps, poor stitching, mis-placed snaps all manner of production errors do not, according to her, qualify as "seconds" or even replacement worthy.

You can actually still send off an email!  I have a Superstar that never fit quite right.  It took me a few weeks to realize it only had one row of snaps that were placed where the first row usually is.  I sent an email and they were super apologetic and had me send it back in and they are currently fixing it.  Also, if a snap ever breaks on it ever and you bought it from the shop, she'll fix it for free no matter how old the diaper is.

She moved all production back in-house last summer as a result of all the production issues.  I've noticed quality has gotten alot better since then and have been happy with what I've received and I've bought quite a bit from the store.  The world famous issues were from that year or so that she moved all production offsite.  There are still some issues that slip by, but nowhere near what it used to be, IMO.

  • So it sounds like seconds must be really poor quality.  That's a shame that people who can't afford to CD only get poor quality donations from her.
