I'm hoping to "hide" this second pregnancy for a while, primarily because my sister's baby shower is in a couple months and I don't want to announce until after it because she deserves all the attention for now (it's her first). Strangers started noticing around 20 wks with my first pregnancy. Do you think I could get away with hiding it until 16 weeks the second time around? If it matters - I'm 5'5" and a little under 120lbs.
Re: How early did you start showing 2nd time around?
Brayden (5 1/2) born 12.28.06
Hailey (4 1/2) born 2.25.08
Taylor (8 Months) born 12.26.11
Depends on what you wear. In the right umpire waist shirt right now, I can hide it, I just have no waist (as a PP said). But if I am in form fitting things, it's pretty obvious. I'd say choose your wardrobe carefully and you can get away with it.
FWIW, I am 5'4'', 120 lbs pre-preg, gained 30 lbs with DS. I started this pregnancy weighing less, so I'm just up to 121lbs now and today is my first day in mat. pants which is more for comfort than absolutely necessity - but absolutely, things happen sooner.
I also think it depends on what you wear. I didn't tell my office until 17 weeks this time around and everyone said that they couldn't tell at all. And right now I think it's still pretty easy to hide if I wear the right types of shirts.
I definitely feel like I started showing much earlier (to me), but I definitely don't think others are as observative!
With #1 I started showing around 23-24 weeks
With #2 I started showing around 20-21 weeks.
I started out the same weight with both so that might make a difference.
With DD, I could tell a difference in my shape starting around 10 weeks, "popped" around 16 weeks, and got my first stranger comment around 18 weeks.
This time around, I could tell a difference starting around 9 weeks and I wont' say I've popped yet, but in the right clothes I think it's obvious to those who know. I don't think I'd still be able to hide it another month. But, I'm also super short (5'1") and started this pregnancy about 10lbs higher than with DD.
Well when I announced #2 to my work at 12weeks, a co-irker said "no kidding" (like I've been showing for quite sometime). But I've always had problem with this person saying in appropriate things (like saying "here comes the fat one" when I was in my 3rd tri with DS#1).
Anyway... I notice if I wear normal clothes, I look big (as in gained weight). If I were maternity clothes (mostly shirts), I definitely look pregnant. I don't think I could have gone past 12 weeks without saying something because I definitely "popped" between 12 and 13 weeks. But every person's body is different.
Right away!
By 16 weeks, I looked like I was ready to deliver! However DS weighed 22 lbs. at his 6 month appt if that gives you an idea.
I gained about 15 lbs. in first tri w/ all three pregnancies b/c I sat my *ss on the couch in paranoia and OB yelled at me each time!
