Cloth Diapering

Is there a difference?

After a lot of thought, I've decided that I will be weaning DD to formula for when I return to work.

Will this make a difference in the wash routine for my dipes? Or is it just for solids?

  • I always swished.  Just a warning, formula poop smells AWFUL and the consistency is gross.  I wish my boobs didn't stop working, if only for my CD's!
  • I don't know from personal experience but I hear you might want to invest in a sprayer b/c formula poop doesn't wash away as easily in the wash as BF poop, it also smells terrible!

I am aware of those things, although not happy about them!

I will probably invest in a sprayer then. And maybe break out the liners DH made me buy.

  • I never had a problem.  FF poop is just as water soluble as BF poop. Until LO starts solids there is no need to dunk.

A sprayer would definitely help.  Can you maybe get your DC provider to swish the poopy diapers while your LO is there so you don't have to deal with 8 hour old poops? With the liners we found that they just bunched up towards the middle of the diaper, which is apparently a common issue.  They also clung to DS' genitals and bum the second he peed, causing rashes, so we stopped using them.

  • Hopefully my mom will be providing DC for most of the time so she'll do whatever I ask of her, but that won't be until 3 months after I go back to work (she needs to work until June to get her pension).

We haven't figured out DC for the 3 intervening months yet (eek!), since we have such strange schedules and it's hard to lock us into a set schedule of times and days.

  • DS was FF (stinkin' boobs letting me down) and we never dunked, plopped, or swished.  Everything just went in the washer until he started solids, and we never had an issue.

  • DD was EFF, and we didn't do anything differently from EBFing. The poo will still be water soluble.
  • Thanks guys! I have an old washing machine so I get tons of extra water in my loads so hopefully we'll be just fine! Smile

  • DD was supplemented with preemie formula for awhile (that is some nasty stuff), but i didn't do anything different then when she was ebf after she was off the formula.

  • We use Similac Sensitive and her poop doesn't really smell. Sometimes, unless I hear it, I can't even tell she pooped. Hmmm. It did reek when we were BF and FF. I've only ever sprayed one diaper.
