C-section recovery question

I thought this might be the most logical place to ask this question.

Anyone remember when you were recovering from your c-section how long the area roughly an inch above and/or below your incision hurt or was sensitive? My OB said that it is normal since they have to yank pretty hard to make sure your guts don't fall out (her words, lol) so I am not worried about the irritation but more so wondering how long it will last. I can't wear pants yet because it, not my incision itself.

Re: C-section recovery question

  • The skin between my belly button and incision were sensitive for a good 6 weeks at least.  I had to wear either high waisted or very loose pants for a while unfortunately.  It did get better though!

  • I had weird sensitivity and numbness for at least a few months but it did end up going away.  It's pretty much back to normal now, maybe slightly more numb than before my c/s.  But it does get better for a lot of people with time.

  • My DS is 3 months old, and the strange feeling around the incision is just starting to fade.  Up until 2 weeks ago, I was wearing maternity pants or sweatpants, because everything else made the incision feel strange.  I agree with PP who said it feels like after the dentist.

  • Thank you for the replies!!

Looks like I still have a ways to go before it gets better I guess! Oh well...here is to continuing to wearing skirts in -10 degree weather, lol.

  • So maybe TMI, but i actually used the huge post-partum pads from the hospital over the incision and snug high waisted undies. It made clothing much easier.

I still have numbness 2.5 years later though it is less pronounced than it once was.

I don't remember any other sensations or weirdness, but whatever I might have been experiencing was probably overshadowed by the allergic reaction I had to the adhesive on the bandage that was over my incision. It was like I'd been coated with acid.

  • I had numbness and pain for awhile...the numbness wore off around 5 months PP, but I still have some slight pain.  I just started getting my period again, and I noticed that the incision is painful during that time.
