Baby Names

Jada ??

We are pretty set on Jada for our little girls name.  Now we just have to think of a middle name. My middle name is Marie and we thought that Jada Marie sounded pretty.

Maybe it is my pregnancy hormones but I am starting to get a funny feeling in my tummy thinking of naming her after myself? Is it weird? Obnoxious? We aren't naming her after me for any special reason, just that we couldnt think of any other middle names that sounded good with Jada...

Any suggestions?

Re: Jada ??

  • I don't like Marie..it's an 80-90's filler NN just like Lynn and Leigh were.

  • There's nothing strange about using your middle name for your child.

It started a tradition in my family that's presently at the fourth generation. Pretty cool if you ask me.

  • Personally.... I do think its a little obnoxious when people name babies after themselves. It just seems a little narcissistic to me.

I love the name Jada. And there are lots of things that sound good with it. How about:

    Jada Violet

    Jada Danielle

    Jada Elise

    Jada Maeve

    Jada Blair

    Jada Dawn

    Jada Ruth

    Jada Mae

    Jada Elanor

    Jada Diane

  • My mother and I both have the mn Marie and I would consider using it for a future daughter. I don't think it's weird at all.

I hate the term "filler name" and much prefer a common mn with personal meaning than a mn plucked from a name book with no personal meaning.

That is what I was thinking. Marie is kind of a common name in my family (lots of aunts and cousins have it..)  I know there are some other pretty middle names, but since the first name was picked out of a book I would like the middle name to have some meaning. Isnt that what middle names are for?  I would like a part of her name to have some meaning.

  • I think Jada Marie has a nice flow to it.

I'm not a fan of naming your child after yourself though. Although, several women in my family share the same middle name. I don't plan on using my middle name for my daughter.

That's what a filler name is.

Marie is a common filler name because so many people have used it under those exact circumstances, but nobody said it was in every case. It's certainly not in yours.

  • I wouldn't name a DD after me if I was naming future DD and wanted to name her after anyone it would be another female in my family that has had a significant impact on my life.

    Jada Elizabeth I like.

  • Jada Marie sounds very pretty. I don't think it is strange at all. My DD's middle name is Marie and so is mine. I liked that her middle name had a meaning instead of telling her one day I just picked it because I liked it.

That's what a filler name is.

If that's the case, then couldn't you say that any mn given to a child that has no family significance and was chosen just because the parents liked it is a filler name?

  • I don't see any issue giving your daughter your middle name....a lot of boys are Jr's, so why can't you give your middle name..even if it is a common mn, such as Marie is, it has significant meaning and works well with Jada.  I say go for it!!
  • DD has my middle name, and I never thought a thing of it.  I agree with you, middle names, in my opinion, are for family names or names with special meaning to you.  I think Jada Marie sounds lovely.
