Car Seats (sorry if this has been posted before)

Anyone have a recommendation on which one or brand is best? I am just curious. I registered for one but I always see other ones that make me wonder if I'm getting the wrong one. In a baby magazine I got they had this insert about the Chicco brand that said they were ranked #1. I registered for a Graco I believe. Again just curious what people are getting or what they have.

Thanks! Big Smile

  • Do you have Baby Bargains?  It's like the bible for all things baby.  Seriously, it's a great guide as your making decisions like this that can becoming overwhelming quite quickly.

  • I have the Graco Snugride, it was between that and the Safe Seat, the Graco rated a little bit better at the time so I went with it and love it. I went with the highest safety rating between Baby Bargains, Consumer reports and user reviews on amazon and BRU.com
  • Ranked #1 by who??  That kind of stuff is important :)

We have the Graco SafeSeat.  Graco has always been rated highly for safety (the SafeSeat and Snugride).

I liked the SafeSeat because it has side impact protection and can be used for children up to 30lbs, rather than 22lbs.

  • I registered for the Chicco because it's rated really high.  I don't know if it's the highest, but I think it was higher than Graco.
  • ditto j&j. ?graco safeseat and graco snugride both got an A in Baby Bargains. ?nothing to be worried about... you picked a great infant carrier.
  • We went with the Graco Safeseat also. I like that it will last longer.
  • Thanks for the info ladies! I can be such a worry wart sometimes. I registered for the Graco SafeSeat so I think I'll just stick with that for now. Smile
  • We got the Graco SnugRide based off of the safety ratings.

Consumer Reports currently ranks Chicco KeyFit as the #1 seat.  However, all of the seats passed for crash test safety.

I didn't care if the seat went up to 30lbs or not.  By that time the baby is plenty big to be in a convertible seat and after 22lbs, I won't want to carry the baby plus the seat anyway.  However, there is a KeyFit 30.

We chose the Chicco over the Graco b/c we hated the Graco travel system stroller.  Both car seats looked very safe to us.  When we were shopping, we pulled the cover back to look at the amount of foam in the frame.  Chicco and Graco both had a lot more that most of the other brands.

  • If you're ever going to worry about anything in your life, the safety of your child is a good reason to start worrying.  Just prepare and research more than you worry, and everything should be fine.  At least, that's what I keep telling myself.
  • I just check out my copy of Fit Pregnancy, and though the cover says "Rated #1" on the insert it actually says Rated #1 as the "easiest car seat to install" and it's "preferred by parents for ease of use, safety and comfort" whatever that means.  I don't know how many parents are experts in safety regulations on car seats.

Pretty much no matter what car seat you go with it's going to be safe since there are such heavy regulations on the manufacturing.

  • My favorite carseats are all made by Graco. Also, I prefer the Graco seats over the Chicco seats. I was a nanny for seven years, and dealt with a lot of different seats. The material that the Chicco seats are made of always caused a lot of sweating. I also thought that the babies I nannied seemed uncomfortable in the Chicco seats because of how far back into the carseat they sit (looked like they were being folded, almost like sitting in a lawn chair that is folding up on you).

There are a lot of different types of Graco seats, but I always feel of the fabric to make sure it feels soft. For some reason the softer fabrics are not as hot and feel more comfortable than the the tougher fabrics that Chicco uses. Graco also always scores very well on healthycar.org's tests (the ones where they tell which seats have the most dangerous flame retardant chemicals on them).

  • i have a graco snugride and LOVE it!!
  • I reg. for the Chicco. I have two friends that have them and love them. When I went to check them out I liked the Chicco stroller better so thats the travel system we went with. But I have heard good things about Graco too!!
  • We have the chicco. ?I started out looking at the graco, but when my DH did a little research and saw the seats for himself, he persuaded me to go with the chicco system. ?He felt more comfortable with the hardware on the back.?
  • We went with the Peg Perego Viaggio which is also rated really high.?

  • I chose between the Chicco and the Peg Perego, and ended up going with the Peg because of the light weight, small folding Pliko stroller. Both car seats were fantastic, so the stroller determined it for us.
