Middle Name Dilemma

This is my first post on here so I'm not very familiar with how to do this, but my husband and I are having a dilemma with our baby girl's name...and since we're not sharing it with family/friends until she's born..I thought I'd get some advide from you guys!

We've decided on a first name for our little girl, Elin (EE-lin).  However, we're having a hard time with the middle name.  We origially came up with the name "Jayne" as a middle name for our girl when we had another first name picked out.  "Jay" is my husband's brother and we thought it would be nice to keep a "family name".  The other first name we had picked out (Edie) I would classify as a "cute" name which I think goes well with Jayne.  Now that we've decided on Elin (which I think is more "elegant", I'm not sure that "Jayne" really fits.  We really like Elin Estella now.

The dilemma...Jay, the husbands brother, got it out of my husband that we were going to use his name for a middle name and he of course was really honored and excited.  So now do we stick with Jayne becasue we don't want to crush him and have a so-so name for our girl?? Or do we risk hurt feelings and go with Estella??

Sorry this turned out to be so long (first post FAIL) :)  Would appreciate any advice!

Re: Middle Name Dilemma

  • I would go with Jayne, because I like it better and then you wouldn't have to worry about hurting BIL's feeling (though either way he'll get over it quickly when he meets his new niece).

I really prefer the spelling Jane.

Additionally, if you go with Estella, her initials will be EEK (which isn't that big a deal...I'm really just trying to talk you into Jayne cause I like it so much more)

  • I love Elin Jayne.

  • He has already been told, so you can go back now! If you like Estella, why not go with Elin Estella Jayne? Nobody said she has to have just one middle name!!!

  • What about Elin Jane? I think it still honors your BIL.

My LO's middle name is Katherine, after my mom's middle name Kathryn.

  • I really prefer a MN to have meaning and not just to sound pretty, mostly because MNs are rarely used anyhow its a good spot to honor someone or do something a little different. My kids both have 2 MNs, as do I, its never caused us any hardships and you could use both names.

  • I prefer MNs to have meaning and you may also want to *save* Estella if you ever have another daughter.
  • elin jayne sounds better than elin estella.
  • I think Elin Jayne flows better than the double E FN/MN.

  • Elin Jayne!  I think it's very pretty, has a better flow than the mn Estella, and it honors your BIL.  However, I prefer the spelling Jane.

  • I love Elin Jayne, and love that it has a family meaning.  It sounds like it means a lot to your BIL.  I like what the PP said about saving Estella for a future daughter.
