Last full day of work

To celebrate, I enjoyed a beer during my final conference call this afternoon.  Tomorrow morning I hand over my laptop.  I'm such a goober that I've been doing the "this is the last time I will do X" for the past week.

On my flight home last Friday night, I got a little bit choked up when the plane was taxi-ing to the runway.  I've been an on-and-off road warrior since 1998 so for me to have no more trips looming is a big deal.

It's the best thing for me to do at this point in my career (and marriage) but it's still bittersweet.

I'm sure once I get my first paycheck, I'll feel better.  =)

  • Haha, I know what you mean. I did the same exact thing when I left my old job! There's something about the moment I get to say, "Aww, this is the last time I'm going to have to kick a drunk out of my clinic", that I'll never forget.

I'm glad it's bittersweet for you. It's so hard, but it sounds like it will be worth it in the end. I can't wait to hear all about the new job! Smile

  • It's bittersweet to close a chapter like this. At least it's on a good note and you have a great new opportunity to look forward to!

  • I can relate to the road warrior changing to a different job type.  When H & I got married I would literally leave on a Monday and come home on Friday (imagine planning a wedding like that!).  I loved it, because I am a travel bug, but I hated being away from H and even though he tried to hide his displeasure over me being gone so much when we were newlyweds, it didn't take long before I figured out how depressed he was that I was gone so much.  It was so bittersweet to go on the last few trips and know that I wouldn't be traveling all the time anymore, especially because not only did I love the travel, but the job was perfect for me too (public speaking/education/seminar type of things).  And to be honest, there are still days on the way up 275 to work that I struggle to take the exit for work... I want to keep going to the airport down the road.  Good luck and congrats on the new job!  I keep thinking maybe one day when the kids are older, I will get back into that type of stuff.  I truly miss public speaking and the travel.  That's one reason (there are others too) why I keep working full time, so we can afford the nice trips.  They keep me sane.  If I didn't travel I think I would lose my mind.
