Cloth Diapering

Wet skin

When I change DS his prefold is really wet!  I change him each time he eats which is every 2-3 hours.  He is getting a rash from all the moisture.

Do I need to let him air  out before putting on a new diaper?  Baby powder to absorb moisture?  I'm open to any advice!

Re: Wet skin

  • Have you tried a fleece liner?

  • I found that with cloth you might need to change more often then every 2-3 hrs. Sometimes I have to change LO every hour and a half to 2 hours if she's in prefolds.

  • fleece!  We don t use prefolds, but we had the same issue with our fitteds overnight. The fleece helps a lot.

  • Air drying before putting on a new diaper would definitely help.  Some people use a hair dryer on low to speed the process.  Also, using fitteds without a cover, or using breathable covers (fleece or wool) to allow the bottom to breathe are popular options.

From what I understand, people aren't recommending using baby powder any more because it can irritate baby's lungs (besides, if I tried it on my DS I'd just wind up with a gross baby-powder-and-pee paste).
