If you have a wipe warmer, I have a question...

My sister-in-law gave us her Prince Lionheart wipe warmer and I just bought two new replacement pillows for it, but now I'm clueless as to what to do! No box=no instructions. SIL's "baby" is now 6 and she can't remember! Do I just dampen the pillow, throw it in there and plug it in? Do I have to keep adding water every few days or something to keep it from drying out?

Sorry if this seems like a really stupid question but it sure beats constantly asking myself when this baby is coming!!

  • We don't have that one, but yep, we would just put some water in the bottom every couple of days when we noticed it was getting too dry.

  • We had one briefly for DS1. You soak the pad in warm water. About once every two weeks you may notice it's drying out, so you should rewet it. The pads need to  be replaced every 3 months, I think.

Just an FYI...We decided to stop using it at about 3 months at the urging of my aunt who is a professor of pediatric nursing at a university and a clinical practicioner at Children's.  She had serious concerns about bacterial growth and contamination from "double dipping" (pulling out an additional wipe mid-change, etc) and the warm wipe envrionment even though I was also using some all natural antibacterial/antimicrobial solution that goes on the wipes (I was using cloth wipes). DS1 had been suffering from some diaper rashes when he was that young, and I don't have clear evidence that stopping use of the wipe warmer stopped the rashes, but they absolutely decrease around that time.

  • Thank you so much!

I'm a lab tech and I've definitely considered the bacterial possibilities given the "incubator-like" environment. I never would have registered for one or bought one on my own but I figured since it's free, why not? I've still been debating using it, though! I guess when in doubt, go with your instincts, huh?

  • We got this one as a gift, and I HATE it!  The wipes don't continue to pull through the hole.  I have to open it every time to pull a wipe out.  I stopped using it on day 2.  But to answer you question, you are supposed to get the pillow wet and re wet it every week then change it after a month (I think).
