Can an infant sleep too much?

Okay, so last week it was crying, this week it seems to be sleeping. Charlotte has been a sleepy, sleepy girl. She's sleeping two, three and four hour stretches on and off all day and still sleeping a good 4/5 hour stretch at night. So, do you think there is such a thing as too much sleeping?

Could be a growth spurt... DS went through that a lot... Some weeks all eating, then fussy, the sleeping... Enjoy the sleeping phase while you can : )

Never too much sleeping. DD is 11 weeks and right now sleeps most of the day. When she is awake she is so happy and rested. Enjoy it while you can!

That doesn't sound like too much.  I just looked this up on kellymom b/c Lila is a pretty good sleeper herself.  The short answer is only if they're sleeping so much that they aren't eating enough.

DD slept a ton since birth thru her first few months due to jaundice. Our pedi told us as long as she's getting regular feedings, then let her sleep. Her body is growing and knows what it needs.
