I wish I could say that the anatomy scan went fantastically well. I guess all things considered, it went somewhat well (the baby is still alive). But I didn't come out of that room confident that we'll have a healthy, take home baby in another 4 months. Rather, I have an appointment with the high risk doctor (Maternal Fetal Medicine) at the hospital in 4 weeks.
Let's start with the good:
-No budging sac at the spine, which means no large neural tube defects (yay!)
-2 kidneys, one stomach, one bladder, 2 legs, 2 arms, 2 feet, and 2 hands
-Brain looks normal
-3 vessel umbilical cord
-Nasal bone present, no cleft lip
-My bladder infection is gone
-An active little girl we have in there (and flexible, too...she liked to put her feet right next to her face)
The neutral:
-Baby girl wouldn't cooperate, so the tech was unable to get the pics she needed of the heart. But, she said that based on the heartbeat and the pics she was able to get, that everything looked good. She'll try again in a month.
-Currently breech
-The placenta moved with the growing of the uterus, so now instead of having an anterior placenta, I have a posterior, and it's lying towards the bottom (but not near the cervix). I have no idea how this could happen, as that would mean that the placenta would need to migrate over the cervix
The not-so-spectacular:
-The size of the body is in the 30th percentile (now, this part is fine....but taken with the next two numbers, not so good)
-The size of the head is in the 14th percentile (Fvck.)
-The size of the femur is in the 10th percentile (Fvckity. Fvck. Fvck.)
The doctor said he isn't too worried about the small head and femur at this point, as a femur at 50% on the bell curve and a femur at 10% on the bell curve means a difference of a few millimeters. Regardless, he's sending me to the hospital to get an ultrasound with the MFM (high risk doctor) in 4 weeks to see where the growth is at then. I asked if the small size could be due to the Lovenox (one of the side effects is stunted growth). He said that Lovenox only causes growth issues from 30+ weeks, and that at 20 weeks, it's not due to the Lovenox.
Some other items of note. My blood pressure was 140/90 at 18 weeks and at 138/88 today (20 weeks). So, to find out if I'm on my way to pre-eclampia, the doctor ordered a 24-hour urine test. On Sunday, I'm going to collect all my urine for 24 hours, and then turn it in on Monday morning. So, if you happen to come over to our house on Sunday afternoon, don't drink the "apple juice" in the fridge, K?
And a PIP of her smelling her feet:
Anyone had experience with a small head and femur? Any stories to share (good or bad)?
Re: Well, the anatomy scan could have gone better (long)
I love the picture and all the good news!
Did the Dr. explain what it means if the baby is much smaller than it should be? Is she still growing? Is it dwarfism? I don't know much about this stage, so forgive my ignorance.
I'm sending you prayers that your little foot sniffer has a growth spurt before your next u/s!

Not really. He just said that he's not worried at this point, and that I should stay off google (bwhahahahaha). Most of the google stuff I've found connect a short femur length with DS, but she has a nasal bone, and my odds were like 1:1500 or something similar. I'm still googling....

Oh, ok. Step away from the Google!
It's a good sign that he's not worried. I know you'll feel better after getting some answers from the MFM Dr. Too bad you have to wait so fricken long for your appointment!!

Yay for the good news.
I know it's hard, but if the doc really isn't worried, try to hold on to that. And stay off Google.
(Yeah, yeah, I know. Not likely).
((HUGS))
I'm sorry that the scan wasn't 100% reassuring. (But that picture is pretty stinkin' cute.) Even though your doctor isn't too concerned (a good sign?), I'm glad that he's sending you to the specialist to get everything checked out.
If you're up to it, please keep us posted on her progress. I'll keep you both in my thoughts!
((HUGS AGAIN))
I agree...BACK AWAY FROM GOOGLE!
If you DR as no worries at this point then just try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy...
I wish you all the best and my T&Ps are with you!
How tall are you and DH? Maybe she's just not going to be a WNBA player?

She is so cute! sorry it wasn't 100% good news -- I think we all deserve that at this point. You know, it's not like her body was 90% and her femir was 10% -- she just might be a little girl. Like the dr. said, a few mm makes a huge difference.
I am praying for you and I hope your next scan brings nothing but good news. Also, FWIW, I had a friend who had the same thing -- and when she wentr in w/ the MFM all was normal. And her reason was much more dire -- they said her son had a femur 2w behind the rest of him. Fx that it's nothing

Yeah! For the good stuff. And Ugh! on the scary stuff. I have to believe, particularly since he knows you and your history, that the Dr. would be more alarmist if there was indeed an alarm bell to ring here.
Sending all T&P for well-developed femurs and noggin size advancement by the time you see the MFM. Who will hopefully start the scan and then ask incredulously why you're there in the first place because everything is peachy keen.

((HUGS)) for the not so fantastic stuff. I'd bet money that she was so active it threw the measurements off.
Keeping you and your daughter in my prayers till the next update.
What a cute little (Can I call her ankle biter?? lol) girl! I don't have much experience on babies measuring small, BUT DD was really tiny for most of my pregnancy and so is this one.
((HUGS)) and lots of T&P that the next u/s gives you more definitive answers!

There is a lot of good news in there, so I hope you can focus on that. I know it's hard not to stress while you wait. I hope the measurements are just a little off and you learn your little girl is perfectly healthy and just a little peanut.
I wish they could get you in sooner than 4 weeks, so you can get some answers sooner. Maybe you can get on a cancellation list?

Congrats on the good stuff. I hope that her growth catches up by the time you see the high risk doctor and that everything is okay. I know it's going to be impossible not to worry but I hope the time goes by as quickly as possible. Thinking about you! I want to hear about a great outcome for you:)
Stay away from Dr. Google! Hopefully everything will turn out well when you go to the MFM- since the doctor doesn't seem to worried I would take that as a good sign. One of my co-wokers is 5'7" and her DH is probably about 6'0"- anyways, they have twins who are 14 and already almost 6'0" and they have a 2 yo who is itty bitty- he's just a petite little guy.
As for the breech- my little guy is breech and they told me not even to think about it until 32 weeks and then I only needed to be mildly concerned until 35 weeks. lol.
Stay away from Dr. Google, I heard he failed medical school and is offering medical misinformation without a license.
Yay for all the good stuff, and yay for a cutie pie little girl in that picture! I am sorry everything wasn't what you hoped it would be. I hope she rocks the charts in growth next time.

I'm so sorry you couldn't just have all good news babe. I will pray for your LO to grow!! I'm reading Dr Luke's book on Multiples but She's ADAMANT about gaining oodles of weight to ensure a large healthy baby. Eat your heart out these next 4 weeks. Tons of protein, RED MEAT-ya I said it, and iron rich and calcium rich foods! Can't hurt, right? And hey it could help!
Well your Doc gave you much more info than mine...DOn't know if that's good or bad. All I got was "Everything looks good" and "you got one of each"
LOVE YOU! ((HUGS))
Congrats on the good news!!!!
Glad to hear that your doc doesn't sound worried, and is more so taking precautions. Good luck at the next/follow-up u/s, I hope you get all amazing and great news!
Missed m/c at 17 weeks, partial molar pregnancy d&c 11/30/09
Yay for good news!!!
I know it's pretty much impossible to not worry, but like pp said, if the doc isn't freaking out then you shouldn't be either.
Sending lots of good vibes your way.
