Light spotting, week 24

Had some light pink spotting yesterday and went to the doctor to check it out.  Major relief that baby is doing well, ultrasound came out normal.  When I was examined that afternoon, the blood was then brown, "old blood."  The doctor told me to have 48 hours bed rest (don't have to stay in bed, but just at home- no work) after the bleeding stopped.  She said they can't tell what it was from, but that I would have to lead a more stress-free lifestyle.  Anyone else have this happen to them?  What did your doc say?

  • Sounds like you need to take it easy, Missy! Wink I haven't had it happen to me, but now I know what could happen if I don't take it easy and relax. Thanks for posting. Make sure to get your rest and I hope you get to feeling better soon. Thank goodness your LO is doing fine! T&P for you!

  • I have had this happen throughout my pregnancy. They can't tell me where it is coming from, nor why. It seems to come out of nowhere and then takes awhile to disappear. Then it won't happen for awhile, and then it will show up again. I saw a perinatologist a few times to make sure my cervix wasn't shortening (it isn't...sounds like yours is normal, too), and he told me that sometimes this just happens and they can't really give you a concrete cause.

No one suggested to me that I was too stressed, though, but if your doctor told you to take it easy, I would.

I know it is scary (and annoying), so I hope it lets up for you!

  • I Had exactly the same thing, they said that sometimes it happens no rhyme or reason, I had it twice now. Mind panic attack enducing! She said as long as the baby sounds good and the ultrasound checked out fine not to worry about it, it could have been any number of things from sex to the baby moving around.... try not to worry!

  • Had some CM with blood streaks in it one time last week. Dr said she thinks my cervix is just really sensitive and that baby is great (it did come back that I had a little yeast); however, I have a transvaginal ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday because my cervix was already feeling a little soft and she could tell that it was not tightly closed, so we need to make sure that my cervix is still long.

  • Thanks everyone, this is worrisome.  What did your doctor tell you to do?  If you were prescribed bed rest, for how long?  This is my third day, but spotting is now very light brown?  Should I go back to see the doctor?
