Best carrier for quick in and out

I have a mei tai style carrier that works if I want to carry DS for a while when he's napping, but I don't like to use it for quick chores or times when he's fussy because it takes so long to get in and out of. (And DS gets really agitated when he wants to come out and I'm futzing with the straps). I would like to get something that's quicker on and off.

I'm debating between a ring sling or a SSC (open to other suggestions too though). Which would be quicker to take on and off? Also, DH and I have a one foot height difference and we'd both like to use it, so it needs to be easily adjustable. And we're in Florida, so something not super hot would be best.

TIA for your suggestions!

  • For what you want I'd say ring sling.  It was a lifesaver when DS was wanting up and down all the time.

  • I have the same question (and also a big height difference). I am leaning toward a ring sling.

  • I love my SBP ring sling, BUT I must say that it didn't take too long for my DD to outgrow it (didn't have it with DS) b/c all the weight is on one shoulder.  The last time I remember using it for sure with DD was when she was about 4mos old, and it wasn't that comfortable any more.

I have two SSCs, an Angelpak that I bought when DS was about 9mos and a Boba that I just got last week.  I'm loving both.  My Angelpak is amazing, and I really don't think I'll ever find something that will truly replace it.  I really like my Boba too though, and I think we will have a long and loving relationship once I get it broken in (it's a bit stiff).

I can do front carries with both with DD still, and with my Angelpak, I was still carrying DS on the front at about 30lbs for longer shopping trips.  I feel like the Boba is going to be (almost?) as good once it's broken in, but only time will tell.  Backcarries are comfy with both, but I think the Boba will probably be better for backcarries, which is why I bought it.  However, I'm still waiting to see how that works out too.

All in all, I'm a big fan of SSCs if you get the right one, so I'd recommend doing a little research on them and trying a few if you can get your hands on them to do it.  Good luck!

ETA: I just noticed that you said you are in FL, and for keeping cool, a RS is probably the best bet of the three I discussed, but then would be my Angelpak.  The Boba feels thicker to me.

  • Quick in and out - Ring Sling.

Best general carrier - Ergo.  It's not as quick as a RS for chores and stuff, but it's quicker than a Mei Tai.

  • I think my Ergo is quick
  • For short carries 20-40 minutes with quick in and outs with a toddler go with a ring sling. I got one from Sleep Baby Productions that is Linen so it will be a little lighter weight and more breathable in the summer.

For longer trips with still a quick in a out go with an Ergo it has better support and I can wear DD in it for an hour or 2 and not really be hurting from it.  I have an Ergo Sport which is a lighter weight material than the standard Ergo so better for hot days.
