I am thinking of taking mine today. I was instructed to eat breakfast or lunch as I normally would, then 2 hours later drink the syrup, then have blood drawn an hour later.
So for breakfast, I had 1/4 cup white rice w/ veggie sausage and egg beaters. Then I had 1/4 of whole wheat waffles with literally a dizzle of syrup plus a tbsp of cottage cheese and maybe 1/4 cup of mixed banana/grapes/strawberry. Oh then maybe 2 oz of OJ.
I'm so nervous I would fail! The Mayo Clinic website suggested fasting the night before and just taking the test first thing in the morning. But my OB said to eat my breakfast normally.
I have a very petite friend who you wouldn't think would fail her GTT because physically she was very healthy but she did =(
Now I'm having second thoughts and thinking i should do this tomorrow instead and do what Mayo Clinic suggests to do.
What are you doing or how did you prepare? I'm not wanting to fake a pass but I'm wondering why Mayo Clinic suggests differently than my OB?
Re: how are you or did you eat prior to your glucose test?
When I took the glucose test while pregnant with DS I was instructed to fast and again during this pregnancy I was instructed to fast 12 hours prior.
I wonder why some OBs would tell women to eat breakfast and some to fast? Seems weird.
I'm jealous of all of you who get to do the 1-hour test. My doctor has moved along to giving everyone a longer test - I have to fast for 8 hours prior, show up and have my blood drawn, then drink the drink, and then have my blood drawn again an hour later, and again 2 hours later. So I have to sit at the doc's office all morning, hungry. Argh... I sooo better pass!!
Yes, this is for my first test. This is what they give everyone.
My test was early in the am and I did not eat before I drank the drink. My instructions said that I did not need to fast but I thought it would better my chances if I did and since it was so early in the am it wasn't a huge deal to just eat breakfast later. I did feel a little sick after drinking it on an empty stomach, but I survived and I was fine the rest of the day. And I just found out yesterday that I passed! Woo hoo!
I recently switched practices, and my old practice did it this way. Their instructions said to fast for 8 hours, drink the drink at the office, and that there would be 2 blood draws. Thankfully, my new practice gave me the drink to drink at home, then I go there, they take blood, and done! There definitely seems to be a wide range on how this test is given.
If I was you I would ask your Dr. what you should do and follow their instructions. If they say to fast, then fast, if they say don't fast then don't fast. Being diabetic myself I would suggest you don't change your everyday diet for the test otherwise it may not be accurate based on your daily situation.
GL!
You can eat BEFORE?!
here in Canada, we are told NO FOOD after a certain time the night before and the only thing we can drink is water the morning of.
This...however I think I'd skip carbs altogether b/c they break down into sugars (regardless of being complex or simple) and fruit. I don't know when your's test is and how feasible eating a turkey wrap and water is. I also don't know how a regular meal will affect your blood sugar readings. Hmmm..
BFP 11/18/13. EDD 7/25/14. It's a BOY!
Surprise BFP 7/30/13. EDD 4/7/14. Natural MC 8/24/13
The fact that every OB has their own set of rules here BUGS me! WTH...
I have to fast 3 hours prior...only allowed H2O.
around here u can eat before. my friend just had hers and had hard boil egg for breakfast, cheese stick and another protein for lunch...this is what she eats anyways....
she passed.......she was good with her sugars a few days before and carbs....carbs just turn to sugar..
they are just checking to make sure your pancreas can keep up with the demand of pregnancy.......is it producing enough insulin, its not the end of the world if u dont pass justmeans u will be most likley on a special diet is all...
this. My appt was at 7am this morning though...unfortunately I failed.
I also have to eat a specific diet for three days before the 3 hr test and again fast in the 12 hours prior....
Isn't it weird how different each place is? I would recommend you do whatever you are instructed to do though...
While being overweight puts you at greater risk for GD...being petite won't prevent you from possibly getting it...
well I just got home from the test then late lunch. Here's to hoping all went well.
Well just that she is really healthy, exercises everyday even during her pregnancy and seriously is a health nut.
She's 5ft and about 95lbs prepregnancy. But I know what you mean.
oh no that sucks. I had the lemon lime flavor one. I drank it chilled as recommended and it wasn't too bad. At least I didn't feel sick or anything.
Sorry you have to do that again =(
