My dog is acting so mischievous lately

Has anyone else's dog been acting strange lately?

My dog had been acting like her normal self during the 1st and 2nd tri but all of sudden she's been getting into all sorts of trouble around the house.  Twice she got a hold of some tissues and ripped them to shreds all over the house.  She is licking everything, the walls, chairs and so on.  That is not usual for her because she's normally such a calm well behaved dog.  I'm wondering if she's acting out because of the pregnancy or if there is another reason for getting into all sorts of trouble.  This is something I'll have to ask the vet about later this week at our appointment.

Re: My dog is acting so mischievous lately

  • My dog has been acting out since about week 20 or so.  He hates my pregnancy pillow and digs into it and gnaws on a certain spot.

My mom says that he knows that something is going on.  She said her dog always acted up when she was pregnant as well.

If you find out, let me know. My beagle has lost her everloving mind. I know that she's not even 3 and thus still pretty puppy-ish for beagles (had them before, this much I remember) but even still... licking walls. Licking the floor. Sucking on her paws and gnawing at them until I got them checked and nope! no issues! wandering around the house whining for no apparent reason as she's been out and fed and loved on and has no bladder/bowel problems (more vet time!)? Check! Throwing emo drama queen fits? Check!

I love her to death but I've fully broken down and yelled, "SHUT YOUR WHINE HOLE!" at her. Of course, she just looks at me in disgust. Dogs..

  • They say dogs can sense that something is different. My dogs were crazy just before I got up the nerve to pee on the stick. It was like they had to be near me all the time which I didnt mind but they were all over my lap & stomach. Then during the 2nd tri they let off for a while & now they are back with a vengence :) They are getting into everything making all kinds of weird noises & yes min too are licking everything (so weird) They have become really protective of me & have even gone as far as to nip at my husband for getting to close to me. I think its funny but I hope they dont get to jealous of the baby once he comes along.

Petsmart by our home has a class you can take your dogs to to get them ready for the LO's arrival & it also gives you little ideas how to ease into it b4 the baby comes home. Its fairly inexpensive & I think I might just have to sign them up for it to be on the safe side :)

  • I am right there with you! My dog is driving me mental... getting into everything, eating remotes... oh yes, not one but 2!! Anything that is out of place he seems to find and eat. He too has started licking walls/coffee table etc.. very strange. I guess time will tell if this stops or if the crate may have to come out again.. I hate having to do that, but I don't want him getting into something that will hurt him. Best of luck with your pooch!

  • Mine has been acting out for a while now.  He's always been a great dog.  Never got into trash, laundry, or anything else like that.  Now he tears up my underwear if he can get a hold of them and goes through the trash in the bathrooms.  He even went as far as tearing up all of our toss pillows one weekend while we were out shopping.  We have been kenneling him ever since while we are out of the house.  It's heartbreaking, but necessary.

We talked to the vet and he said that dogs can sense when a woman is pregnant.  Something to do with our hormone levels.  He said that its normally the dogs that act differently during the pregnancy that are the best with the child when they come out.  He told us we will be surprised how wonderful and protective he will be of LO.

Here's hoping he's right!!!! Good luck with your mischievous dog!!! Wink
