Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Wth is wrong with his bellybutton

K's belly button looks scary to me. Everytime he cries or strains his belly button balloons out,  I looked it up on google and it said that that is a hernia.

How in the world did that happen? We see his dr on Thursday,  so Im going to asking about this. I really hope its not too serious. He doesnt seem to be in pain with it.

I dont know ....I worry about everything with him. Im becoming one of those Mom's that freak out over everything.

Re: Wth is wrong with his bellybutton

  • DD was born with this. Apparently, there's nothing to be done about it but see if it resolves itself by the time she's 2 (which it normally would). If it doesn't, they would do laparoscopic surgery.

  • It's a hernia, DS had a bad one when he was born.

It went away on it's own around the year mark.

     ETA:

Here he is with a hernia at about 3 months.

I don't have an after pic available but it looks 100% normal.

    Try not to stress.

  • I understand, I was always fretting about that thing. I will fret if DD has one too. However, they usually go away on their own and you don't have to do anything (ie. push on them, tape a coin to them, etc).

Just watch and see if it gets hard when he is not crying. Very, very, very (I want to stress very, haha) rarely babies intestines might get stuck in the hernia. Again VERY rarely. But it's smart to just keep an eye out for it. If the button is soft when not crying it perfectly okay. And talk to your pedi for piece of mind. Smile
