Odd ? - do your pre-preg shoes fit?

This might sound odd, but very few of my pre-preg shoes fit. I'm 6 weeks pp, and all of my swelling has gone down. However, most of my shoes (and nearly all of my heels) are tight. It's as though my feet grew longer while pregnant.

Replacing my whole shoe wardrobe will be very expensive.

Did this happen to any of you? Is it common?  Should I wait it out a bit longer to make sure my feet won't go back to normal?

  • I'm glad you asked!  I was thinking the same thing.  I'm about 1/2 bigger.

  • Mine dont fit either, I am 1/2 size bigger now. I have been told by several friends that they dont go back to their old size... :( However this could really vary by person. I dont have any swelling left either but my feet now seem wider. Booo.

  • mine are a 1/2 size bigger from my first and he is 20 months and they never went back. My heels were the worst. I had to give all of them away.
  • Haha! I remember my mom and majority of my aunts (8 aunts all with 4 or more kids) talking about this while growing up. They all had to get a 1/2 - 1 size larger than pre-pregnancy size.

I find into all my tennis shoes, running shoes, flips flops, and my high healed pumps but the super strappy high healed shoes hurt a bit.

  • I have heard it is common and I was sooo keeping my fingers crossed it wasn't going to happen to me because I love my shoes! But being on maternity leave, I haven't tried anything beside my tennis shoes! The swelling is completely gone though and I forgot how slender my ankles are. :)

So I guess my fingers are still crossed, but now I have the urge for a shoe fashion show!

  • My feet were worst during the summer while I was pregnant, towards November the swelling was all the way gone. Around August when I got my first sono though, my feet looked like foot shaped balloons and my ankles ceased to be ankles, I had cankles. Yeah, all I could wear this summer was flip flops and tennis shoes I rigged so the laces didn't have to be tightened or anything

  • I had been pretending for the last few weeks that my feet were still the same size.  I had to finally give in and go buy some new shoes after getting a nasyt ingrown toenail because of the too tight shoes:(  I went up an entire size.  But as my sister says... i did get a baby in exchange, plus I had freakishly small feet to start out with:)

  • I had to go buy new tennis shoes, as mine are now a 1/2 size bigger.  I've heard it's permanent... which makes my sister extremely happy as she'll be getting all of my shoes that are now uncomfortable. Smile

  • My flip flops, sneakers, and most of my flats do but my heels...no!  I put on my favorite pair the other day, and in about 5 minuets my feet were killing me! This is the same pair that before I got pregnant I could go downtown for hours and walk around in them no problem.  I'm hoping my feet were just still a bit swollen and someday soon I can wear them again.

  • Only my flip flops.

Your feet usually grow when you get pregnant. I'm a whole shoe size bigger.

  • In the last few months of pregnancy, your hormones work to loosen your ligaments for labor.  This can also impact the tendons in your feet which is why it's common to gain a 1/2 shoe size or more.  At 5 weeks pp I'm back in all of my shoes including heels. But I thought I would pass along what I've read.

  • Nope, I can only fit into the shoes I bought in my last month of pregnancy.  Hmm reading the OP makes me wonder if I shouldn't throw away my shoes just yet.  I just hate to have to buy all new shoes.  I just hope they don't grow again for the next pregnancy!
