Which mini Odyssey or Sienna?

After trying out a bunch of cars this weekend we've realized it's much more practical to get a mini van. If you have an Odyssey or Sienna what do you like not like about it. If you live in a cold weather area how are the vans in the snow. We live in New England and my DH is a little nervous about not having the all wheel drive. Really anything you can tell me about your experience with these 2 vans will be helpful! Thanks!

Re: Which mini Odyssey or Sienna?

  • I don't have a van, but the Toyota Sienna has an AWD model.

I have plenty of friends with the Odyssey, though and they do fine driving to the mountains (we're in CO).

  • Love my Odyssey. We bought it used. It is a 2006. We also live in New England and I have not had any trouble driving in all the snow this winter. It also has been extremely reliable and I love all the storage and different seating options. The dual climate control is nice also.
  • I love my Odyssey but I don't live where its cold and I don't drive in snow (it does snow here, luckily it just shuts down the state)

    I love:

    1.  ALL the cupholders- 10 just up front

    2. sliding doors (no more kids banging other people's cars)

    3.  Having extra room for friends

    4.  DVD player

    5. seat warmers (I have the touring)

    6.  truck space (fit my double and single stroller)

    7.  it drives well

I do wish that the entire back had latch system.

  • We have  Dodge Grand Caravan and we live in Canada..... we've had a lot of snow fall this year, plus we live in the country (gravel roads to get to our place, etc.)   So far, our mini-van has handled awesome in the snow.    It plows right through, quite well.   I have to say that it handles a bit better than the Ford F150 did.

I can't really comment on how the sienna and odyssey do in snow, but we've been happy with our mini-van!

eta:   no matter which van you get:  consider getting power sliding doors and tailgate, as well as captain's chairs in the middle row.  Oh, and stow 'n go is awesome!!  Also, climate control is great, too!!

  • I never wanted a minivan. Even as we were filling out the paperwork to buy it, I was not excited. But after a year and actually hauling 7 people around in it, it's a good vehicle and it is very practical and convenient.

We looked at the odyssey, sienna, and caravan. We were buying used, so we were limited by what was available and frankly the used odysseys were ridiculously expensive. I get that Honda's hold their resale value, but all of the ones on the market at that time were just way over priced. On the other hand, when it came to Caravans, we had trouble finding ones that were more than the base model and the base model just didn't feel nice to me in terms of the trim package. But I know they make nicer trim versions, so maybe people just don't sell them as often? (Those stow and go seats were very tempting)

There weren't a whole lot of Siennas available either, but they had more that were reasonably priced and still newer/low milage. I have the CE Sienna, so the base model. And it still feels nice inside. I love being able to carry around my friend and her 2 kids when we go on little trips around town. I love how easy it is to climb in and out of. I love the sliding doors (I kind of wish we had automatic ones, but I can live without them).
