another drop-ins question

I make the bottles by adding 3 oz of water and then dumping in the formula. Once I add the formula, the liquid line is over 3 oz. How can I tell how much he ate if he doesnt take the whole bottle? Do I subtract from 3oz or what the liner reads once the formula is added?

Once you add formula it adds .2oz for each scoop.  (It I remember correctly from the can).  

 I consider those .3 oz a wash since there is a lot of formula that gets lost in the maze of the bag when deflated.  Only once it counts as half an ounce do I actually count it in the overall total when I subtract.
