I BF during the day but DS never seems to empty either breast so I've been pumping. Occasionally I'll just bypass the BFing and give him a bottle for one or two feedings during the day. During those times when I pump from a full breast, I'll pump like 15 mins and get 5oz per side. I feel like that's a LOT considering DS is only a week old!
So....How often do you pump, for how long, and how much do you get in one sitting?
Re: If you pump... a question of quantity...
When our LO was about a week old I was pumping about 12 oz per pumping when LO didn't feed off the breast. It has since then went down per pumping because my breasts have regulated to demand.
If you want to keep it that high make sure you keep pumping and breast feeding as you are. I pumped for demand. It's harder to production back up then down.
My DS is 5 weeks old and I did like you at first-pumping and BF but now I pretty much just pump if we are going out and I'm not sure I'll want to nurse. When I pump I usually get around 5-6 oz but rem. that every woman is different....in fact each boob is different! I will usually get more milk from my left one, which is common and prefectly normal. Hope that helps!
Sorry I realized I didn't answer your question. HAHA!
I am currently pumping about 15-20 minutes and get 4-5 oz. total.
LO eats about 3-4 oz of that from the bottle. I'll have to up my pumping time soon. She's eating more and more.
Agreed! My left one produces about 4 oz. and the right only about 1 oz. Boooo! Haha!
KelleyBelly11-
This is off topic but your baby girl is absolutely adorable! I just signed up for this and I'm trying to figure out how to post my little guy's pic...not the most computer savy person....
it's because you're engorged. if you conitnue to pump after you feed him you'll teach your breasts to always have that much milk. and skipping a pumping will screw with your supply if you do it too much.
anyway, i pump at night while the h gives my lo a bottle of ebm, and after 10-15 min i usually get 2-4 oz per side. I set aside 3 oz for the next feeding and then put the rest in a milk storage bag. I started this routine at almost one week postpartum, and at 3.5wks post partum I now have 174oz in the freezer. I'm going to donate 100oz to a milk bank this week, I pump more than enough for us and those babies really need it.
Thank you!
I used photo bucket's website. I can try to help you out and walk you through it if I can send you a private message on here. Do you know how to find your private messages?
haha, yeah right....
no, I can't even figure out how to change my icon. i did, however upload his photos but that's about it...
OK...
1. Top left screen in the green square click on "my bump" and then log in
2. Once you are logged in your bump page will come up, over on the right there is a tab that says "Inbox" click it.
3. Once in your "inbox" there will be a tab for friends and a tab or "messages" click on that and you will see all your private messages.
I'll send you one to test it. Reply back to me when you find it.
I was going to post this question earlier. I only get about 1 ounce from my right breast and 2 ounces from my left breast. I pump every 2-3 hours because dd won't eat off the breast right now.
She is only 5 days old so I don't know if my milk will increase soon. It only came in a day and a half ago so there hasn't been time to get much but I feel so engorged. I feel like even after pumping and no more milk comes out, my breasts are still full. I hate it.
