For the past four days, I have been feeling nauseous on and off in the mornings and evenings (I'm 6 w), which I am strangely thankful for since I never felt this with the pregnancy I lost. However, I also am feeling guilty as the only things I can stomach right now are salty or starchy foods (pasta, potatoes, crackers, popcorn, etc.). I also have eaten almost a quarter pan of brownies by myself.
Normally, I love veggies, but the texture of them is triggering my gag reflex right now. I made some steamed asparagus the other night and had to choke it down. I've tried both steamed and raw veggies, same reaction. I've managed to choke down some peaches and bananas in the last couple of days. I feel like I'm cheating this baby out of important nutrients. What are your thoughts? Try to choke down the food knowing I might lose it anyway or just eat what sounds good?
Re: Feeling grateful and guilty
(((Hugs))) Eat what you can eat when you can eat.
I too had an aversion to fruits and veggies. I found that canned fruit (of all things) was tolerable. I also found that veggies chopped really finely and made into soup would go down well. You can also do the same with pasta sauce and just run it through a blender (or use an immersion blender) to "hide" the veggies. Jessica Seinfeld wrote an entire cookbook about hiding veggies. It's for cooking for kids, but it'd work for pregnancy too. The soup thing also worked when I had a meat aversion. I just had to make sure the meat pieces were really small as sometimes I had to swallow them whole to get them to go down.
This, exactly. My doc told me, if all you can stomach is cereal for now, then just have cereal.
I only ate carbs the first trimester (junk included) and still managed to lose weight because I couldn't keep much down. I eat much better now and don't since the first trimester was forever ago, I don't feel guilty about it at all. I also couldn't stomach plain water, so I drank lots of watered down juice. My doc wasn't concerned at all.
I don't eat meat so I made sure I had protein powder on hand (they make some like flour to add to pasta dishes, in baking, etc. as well as the kind to add to milk).
Just be sure to take your vitamins and don't stress yourself out over it.
