Formula on Ebay??

Has anyone ever purchased formula off Ebay?  Our little one has to be on Nutramigen and have found it much cheaper and in bulk on Ebay.  My husband is all about it and thinks it's a great idea, but I am leary and worry about it being safe.  What are your opinions and/or experiences if anyone has ever done it? Thanks!

  • As long as the containers are factory-sealed and not expired, there should be no problems whatsoever. If you receive something that isn't up to par, you can always either contact the seller or file a claim with eBay to get your money back.
  • I wouldn't do it, just because if there IS something wrong, you won't have very much recourse.  Yes, you could file a dispute and get your money back.  I guess, though, that I think of the potential consequences of a bad batch of formula as being much greater than loss of money.

But you take the risk of getting a bad batch whether you buy it from the grocery store, Amazon.com or from an eBay seller. As long as the containers are factory-sealed, your risk is the same regardless.

Ehhh, I think you're more likely to be notified if there's a bad batch if you buy through a more local brick and mortar store like Target or Meijer.  Not my money or baby, though.

  • No way no how.  I would be afraid that it's been tampered with.  I can understand the wanting to save money, though.  Our first son was on formula and it is so expensive.  But then we found out that all formula is regulated by the government, so generic brands are just as safe and nutritious.  We switched to BJ's brand.  Of course, if your LO has special needs, like soy or something, sometimes a generic version isn't available.
