Drop-side cribs, recall and sidecarring.

Is this something I need to worry about? This'll be the last baby in this particular crib, but we weren't planning on using it for anything but sidecarring it until 6 months. Do I need a new crib if we're not actually using the drop-side?

from what i understand, the problem was that the plastic on the drop-side adjustment would become old and break, causing that side of the crib to slide around/fall down and potentially trap the baby between the side and the mattress, leading to injuries or suffocation.  i would think if you take that side off, it would be fine... but i'm no expert.
