Spelling - Mackenzie?

Hello all.

I really love the name Mackenzie but am wondering how best to spell it. My husband likes McKenzie. I like Mackenzie but he thinks it sounds too much like MACK-enzie and thinks people will call her Mac, which I hate. I've also heard of Makenzie and I'm not sure which I like.

Thanks for your opinions!

Re: Spelling - Mackenzie?

  • I vote for skipping the name altogether, it's on it's way out, finally. It's very masculine and I'm not really sure why it ever seemed attractive to people.

If you're determined to use it, I would spell it Mackenzie, which is the most popular spelling. Most of the Mackenzies I know get shortened to Kenzie or Kenz.

  • My neighbor named her daughter Mackenzie, and I think she is one of THE most adorable little girls I've ever met.  They shorten it to Kenz or Kenzie Girl.

I though for sure that I would end up calling her Mac, but it's so masculine it doesn't fit her AT ALL.

McKenzie is a LN, make sure you let your DH know that.  Mackenzie with only one capital letter is the better spelling, IMO.

  • I like the name Mackenzie and think it should be spelled that way.It doesn't make sense to me the other way.
  • I like just Kensie...it's on my girl list! :)
  • Mackenzie is how this name is spelled. Does your husband really want your baby to have a bizarre grasp of vowels and capitalization if you spell it the other way? Isn't he afraid people will call her Mck?

I know someone with this name (in her thirties) and she goes by Max. It's adorable on her.

  • Our friends spell it Mackenzie and they've had no issues whatsoever with this spelling. I also had a student spell it that way :)

  • My daughter is Mckenzie.  We don't capitalize K, but that was just our opinion.  I didn't like the Mackenzie spelling. We also never had issue with correcting it either. We call her Mckenzie or Kenzie.

  • I would do Mackenzie.  The others look made up and just an attempt to be unique, which is unnecessary.

This.  I believe the correct spelling is B-A-D.

  • I think some people will call her Mac no matter how it's spelled.  My niece is named Makinlee, and people often mispronounce it make-in-lee due to the spelling.  I think if you use it, use the traditional spelling of Mackenzie.

  • I personally wouldn't use it.  Sorry.  It's trendy and I've seen a million different spellings for it so you and your daughter will always be correcting people.  But if you do use it, then I'd definitely go with the Mackenzie spelling.  It's the least confusing.
