mattress ?

For the crib mattress, how do you recommend buying one? I didn't really look at Target, because they weren't sealed right in the plastic. NYC has a bedbug issue, so it must be sealed. I think we'll go to BRU. I don't plan on getting the cheepest, but am thinking that baby doesn't need an expensive one either.

Do you have any recommendations?

from what I hear 150plus coils or foam. You want it to be firm.

I bought ours on Amazon.com and it included free shipping....it came sealed in plastic within a box and arrived very quickly! I chose the Colgate Classica based up my Baby Bargains book and reviews on the Amazon website.

I'm getting the organic Naturepedic crib mattress. I figure that the baby spends most of the time sleeping, and this is one of the best you can get. Plus if you think about you wont be buying another mattress for a few years so its money well spent. The crib I'm getting is converts to a toddler bed then a full sized bed so the mattress will fit up to the toddler stage. You can also get this mattress at BRU.

We bought on Amazon also. Came sealed in plastic and straight to our door, with free shipping! Can't beat that.

We got the Kolcraft Pediatric 2000. It was about $70, has over 150 coils, and seemed firm enough to me.

The mattress and the strollers (for whatever reason) have been my two headaches so far.    Originally I wanted a foam, just based on it being light.  After shopping and the stinky sales ladies swinging my vote toward Coil...I started looking more at coil.  Both friends I visited with newborns got coil as well..

 

I ended up with the Colgate Posture Plus 2 in 1 which is 150 coils and more foam on one side to use for a toddler bed and extra firm on the newborn side.  Its has square edges and fits perfectly in our crib.  It was originally like $230 at USA baby but got it on sale for some reason for $165.  It seems great and I'm pleased...and I was able to lift it really easily in/out of the crib and carry it upstairs so it wasn't too heavy which is what I was worried about. 

don't over think it...lots of people get the Colgate Classica I foam mattress...I almost returned the one I got for this one...but didn't feel like going back...a good firm mattress is a good firm mattress....

LOL, Laura. That's the same mattress we're buying. I believe we also bought the same furniture. Great minds think alike, huh??

The one we will be purchasing is from target. The brand is Munchkin and it has 160 coils and it's a dual mattress, so one side is firmer for infants and the other is a little softer for toddlers. I'm sure if you order it online it would be sealed correctly. Or ask at Target if they have better sealed mattresses in the back?? That mattress is $89.99.
