BG's Repelling?

I'm so confused.  I've just started trying to use CDs and I bought 5 BG 3.0's so start out with.  They were brand new when I got them and I have only ever washed them with the eco-friendly family detergent. 

I have washed them 3 times total.  I noticed a bit of leakage the first time I used them, but wasn't too worried about it until LO peed during a diaper change and I covered him with a new one and it just rolled off the diaper and all over the changing pad.

What have I done wrong?

What detergent are you using?  Eco-friendly may not mean diaper friendly.

I don't really panic when I see liquids roll off the diaper a little bit as it does take a little bit of time to absorb.  When your LO leaked initially was the diaper soaked?  How big is he?  Mine couldn't wear her OS dipes until 10-12 lbs. and we still had an occasional leak because of user error and her skinny thighs.

We haven't had a problem with the BGs. However, I usually run new cds through the wash at least three times before using them. They really do get more absorbent the more they are washed.

Mine recently started doing this and caused a major leak today. Don't know the cause yet but they are unusable as is. It's not just slow to absorb. It's beading up and rolling right off.
