Well we have had our first minor setback. Nolan got a feeding tube last night. He is handling his volume increases well but he is just not taking them in the 20 minute time level that he has to do them in.
It broke my heart walking into that this morning. He keeps having sneezing fits as well because of it in down his nose.
The GOOD news is that for two nights in a row he has gained weight!! He is back up to 4.10 now which makes his mama super excited.
I put him to breast for the first time tonight after Kevin did his kangaroo care hour. He did not "do much" but it seemed to soothe him. Now that he has the feeding tube it's not a worry to "tire him out" I was not able to put him to breast before because of him getting to tired & not being able to do his feedings in that 20 minutes so that is the one "pro" of him being on a feeding tube It was a quite amazing experience that caused me much joy!
Thanks everyone for the thoughts & well wishes.
& a new picture!!

Oh gosh... I'm sorry to hear he's had a setback ((hugs)). Maybe think of it as an easier way for him to get his nutrition and calories so he can get bigger and stronger and come home sooner.
Many good thoughts still coming your way!
Hannah
ps - He's beautiful!!
(((HUGS)))
He's so sweet. You guys remain in my prayers.
Aww, I know how tough it is to see your LO on a feeding tube. DD was on one for the first week of life, because she was not receptive to the bottle or nursing. As difficult as it was to see that, the NICU nurses kept reminding me how it was helping her to gain strength. She wasn't losing precious ounces from trying her hardest to feed on her own. This helped me a lot. I kept trying to nurse her in the NICU once the tube was removed, but her latch was never good. So, I ended up pumping for 3 mos. She always did better on the bottle.
DD got down to 4 lbs. 3 oz. in the NICU, but she did get back up to 4 lbs. 10 oz. (1 oz. shy of her birthweight) when we were able to take her home. Been thinking of you and Nolan! He is so adorable.

Grow Nolan Grow!
A feeding tube is hard and seems annoying for them to deal with but it will help him gain weight so he can properly learn to feed on you. Good luck with his feedings!
