Green poop

My LO has been crying on/off since 6 this morning and has slept only 30 minutes today with no end in site.  NOTHING helps her, swaddling, etc.  The only thing that keeps her quiet is the breast.  I only breast feed her, not hing else. I've noticed today that she has been having green stools. Has anyone ever had this with their little one?

Re: Green poop

  • Green poop here too.  Sometimes she has one solid little "nugget" in the middle of softer poo.  Sorry, TMI.  I think my little one is somewhat constipated because we switched formula a week ago, was advised to give her 1 ounce of Prune juice until soft stools daily.

  • It should be ok.  It generally means you're giving too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk.  Try waiting longer before switching sides.  :)

  • Ditto on the foremilk/hindmilk imbalance.  Sometimes it's tough when they only want the boob (like a growth spurt) because they end up with more foremilk than hind and end up with the green poop.

This.  A foremilk/hindmilk imbalance is associated with gassiness and green frothy stools.  If you keep her on one side longer (say a three-hour block of just eating off one side) that should help.

The breastfeeding board here and this website (https://www.kellymom.com/bf/index.html) have a lot of good info.
