Hi everyone! It's crazy that I'm already over here, but our sweet boy was born this past Wednesday at 36 weeks 6 days! The following is Luke's birth story :
Contractions started at work (again) right after I finished lunch on Tuesday around 1pm. Lost the MP, spent the next 2.5 hours timing contx, and finally decided that MIL (who works with me) should probably take me to L&D to be checked. We got there around 4pm, and they put us in a 'holding cell' to check me and monitor my progress. On Monday at my last appt I was 2cm and 70% effaced, when I checked in on Tuesday I was 3cm and 80% effaced.
Stayed there with MIL until about 830 and the oncall doctor finally admitted me due to the frequency and strength of contrax I was having. By 10pm I was at 5cms, and got my epi. At this point, DH got someone to cover the rest of his shift and joined us at the hospital. The epi was wonderful, and I immediately fell asleep. Got about 7 hours of on and off sleep, but by the time I was up the next morning my contrax had tappered off and I hadn't made any more progress.
Until now, my doctor had been hesitant to break my water or start pit. since I was still only 36 weeks 6 days ... but she finally came in around 1030 am and broke my water. An hour later, they started pit. The contrax came back ... and the epi started wearing off. I guess by about noon, it was all but gone. I was checked, and was at 7cm but baby was still really high up. The nurse said she would call the anisthesiologist back to up the dose for me. She had me roll onto my side to wait.
At this point, I went from a 7 to a 10 in less than 7 minutes. The anisthesiologist arrived and I was yelling that I needed to push. The kid literally felt like he was going to fall out of me, but my doctor hadn't arrived yet. The nurse wanted to check me, but I couldn't think of anything MORE painful than going through one of these contractions with someone's fingers in me. She waited about another minute, checked me, and I was at a 10 and the baby's head was RIGHT THERE.
I had to get through about 5 more contractions before the meds kicked in and my OB arrived. I pushed for about 20 minutes, and out he came! Lucas Nolan was born at 157pm. 7lbs 3 oz and 19.25 inches long. Since he was technically a preemie, the NICU team was in place in the room as a precaution, but he was absolutely perfect and they weren't needed at all. Just like his brother, he barely cried at all as he was born, just a lot of looking around and squeaking
Since then we learned he has a heart murmur, and small hole in his heart. His pedi isn't really concerned about it, although he has to see a cardiologist within the next 6 weeks. He's BFing really well ... or at least he would be if my stupid milk would come in ... I'm starting to get worried about that. Other than that, we're all doing great. Thank you for all the well wishes and notes I've received on here and on FB!
