Do you wake your LO during the day to eat? My pedi said to wake him every three hours so he doesn't get his days and nights confused. Is this good advice, or should I let LO sleep? He is over his birth weight and sleeps anywhere from 2 1/2 to 5 hours at night.
Re: Daytime sleep, wake up?
I'm C&Ping my response from a similar post below:
With DD I wouldn't let her sleep longer than a 2 hr stretch during the day. I would wake her, change her (which would help wake her up) feed her, and she would have a bit of "awake time" before falling asleep again. I would also never wake her at night to eat. I would let her call the shots on that, and our Pedi said there was absolutely no problem in doing that since DD was eating enough and gaining sufficient weight. It only took about 10 days of doing this to get her into being more awake during the day and sleeping for a 4-5 hr stretch at night. Which, between midnight & 4am, was heavenly. So far we've only had DS home from the hospital for 2 nights so we haven't really gotten into any kind of rhythm with him yet. Waiting another week or so to see how things pan out on their own before making any changes.I never do. Ok, well maybe once it has been 4 hours between feedings. I then do it really gently, aka, turning the swing off, unswaddling, etc, so she is almost still waking on her own.
Neither of mine seem to have ever had issues with the day.night thing.
At 3 hours I start unswaddling baby and give him little kisses so he starts to wake up. Then I change his diaper and start his feeding. He's 3 weeks old and this seems to be helping him sleep for 4 hours stretches at night.
