My son has been on Nutramigen since 8 weeks old. It did wonders for him and we have no gripes minus the high price tag.
Here is my dilemna over two weeks ago LO got a little sick, runny nose, cranky and lots of dirty diapers. We took him in two days later and the Dr. confirmed a cold and said wait it out. Within a day, all symptoms were gone except the multiple dirty diapers. Many were very loose and mucusy. A week later we called the Pedi again and said come in. We came in and he suggested that maybe he was allergic to soy and there was hidden soy in his cereal. So we switched to a soy free/dairy free cereal. Five days later there was no change. He was still having 8-12 dirty diapers a day! My dr. then ordered some tests for bacteria infection or parasite although lo is not running a fever, not throwing up, not that fussy, hasnt lost weight, isnt dehydrated or hasnt lost his appetite.
We got the results today and everything came back negative. I am happy to hear that they doesnt have any of those issues, but kind of frustrated that it puts us back to square one. We have no idea whats going on.
Do you think its possible that Nutramigen isnt needed anymore and is causing these diapers? Any thoughts from you ladies? I know I am grasping but I just want answers.
Monday I plan on calling our pedi and it looks like we might get referred to a specialist. Ugh.
Re: Possible to outgrow Nutramigen early? Diarrhea issues...
There is no blood in his stool but most are mucusy.
I am nervous to change him to a new formula, but I guess I can call the pedi Monday for a suggestion.
