Parenting after 35

Charlie chipped a tooth!

Don't know when, but he's taken a few face plants over the past few weeks and I just now noticed his big front tooth has a bit of the bottom part chipped off!!  There's also a bit of a point to the edge now.

Call the pedi?  He's most certainly not in any pain or eating poorly because of it.  And of course, since DH is switching jobs right now, our new health coverage doesn't kick in for a couple of weeks.

Geez.. when it rains, it pours!

  • I'll bet he looks scrappy!  I'm sure he's fine.  :)

  • It's barely noticable and I'm sure the little pointy edge will wear down with time.  I'm just concerned if the tooth has more damage that's not visible.

  • Considering I just now noticed it, that tells you how often I really get a clear look in there!   Don't count on a pic!  HA!

It really is barely noticable.  Only now that mommy's seen it, she's obsessed with the fact that her baby isn't perfect anymore!!  SOB

  • Maybe call the pedi first. They may suggest you see a pediatric dentist, and you can make an appt for 2 wks from now.

  • Poor Charles!  It's been a bad weekend for these baby teeth!
  • Long story that I don't want to rehash, but D took a faceplant on asphalt from about a foot off the ground. She bit her lip and scraped it up badly, but one of her teeth looked to have shifted too. The pedi said there was nothing they could do - check with the dentist. D doesn't have a dentist, but I called mine. She said there was really nothing to do. The baby teeth are made to fall out. Hers will either fall out because of this or at its normal time. When I asked about permanent damage, she said we won't know until her permanent teeth come in. It sounds like Charles will be just fine, but put a call into your dentist if it will make you feel better. I asked mine "what would you do if it was your baby?". Her answer - nothing. Saved me a trip to the dentist (and we don't have dental insurance for her either).

  • Jace has a big ol' chip in one of his top front teeth. He did it around his first birthday. We rushed him to the pediatric dentist (good excuse to check that off my to-do list). The doc said he was totally fine. He said that it may turn black later (never did) but would make cute pictures :P

I am sure Charlie is fine but once you get the insurance all straightened out, it can't hurt to take him in for a teeth evaluation if nothing else. :)

  • Thanks all!   I'm sure he'll be fine.. it's barely anything and you have to really look to actually notice it.   I may just wait until his next pedi appt in April and have her look at it.

  • My dentist chipped my tooth (very tiny chip) with his drill and when I pointed it out to his partner (his dad, hehehe), he was able to just smooth the whole tooth out and you can't even tell. I would just make an appointment with a dentist when you have insurance again.
