(Late) Afternoon nap ?

I put DD down for a much needed nap around 5 and she's still sleeping... I'm really worried she's not going to sleep tonight (and that I'm not going to either), but I'm not going wake her up... after all, sleep begets sleep, right? right? (fingers crossed!!!)  I have this battle every night... I don't want to keep her awake and get her over tired, but I also don't want her to go to sleep too early and wind up with all of us being up all night because she thought 4 or 5:00 was bedtime instead of naptime.

What time does your LO take his/her last "nap" before going down for the night and how long is it?

  • DD  usually get a bottle between 6-7.  At some point after that she will go to sleep.  At 10 we wake her again for a diaper change and a bottle.  I've thought about seeing if she will sleep through the night after the earlier bottle, but i value my sleep to much to brave it.  I figure that once we start on rice cereal, she will start the sleep for 10-12 hours at night.

This is what we do too.  In fact, LO is sleeping right now, he ate at 6pm & fell asleep shortly after.  He's not a good napper, though (had only slept about 2.5 hrs TOTAL today) so by this time he NEEDS to sleep!  He's not SSTN, and eats every 4-5 hrs still, but after his overnight feedings always goes right back to sleep.  I guess it just depends on your LO!

  • My Lo pretty much sleeps all day.  She eats and then sleeps for 3-4 hours, eats and plays for a bit..she is up for about an hour and then back to sleep for 3-4.  Her last
"nap" is about 1hour-1hour 15 min. before she goes to bed.  At night she goes somewhere between 5-7 hours between feedings and she is breastfed.  I would say sleep begits sleep.  For a while I was keeping her up too long between naps and she was so overtired.  It took a while to get her to not be at the overtired phase but now she is sleeping so much better and is happier when she isn't sleeping.
