I am a bit of a lurker and a first time mom, due May 19th. At my anatomy scan, the technician said she was 'pretty sure' the baby was a girl. We had to have a f/u scan a few weeks later and we heard the same thing - they couldn't get a good picture, but the doctor said she saw other signs of the baby being a female, so we went with that.
Now, I'm starting to get nervous. I don't think my doctor normally does another ultrasound. I will ask when I go next week, but I doubt it - any thoughts?
Also, if this were you (and you were having a big baby shower with A LOT of pink things) would you go to an ultrasound place to double-check? I would have to pay out of pocket, plus I don't want to do any more ultrasounds than necessary.
I appreciate your input!
Re: Any more ultrasounds?
If you've already told people it's a girl, and you're having a "girl" themed baby shower... but doubt that you're actually having a girl... I would pay for the elective ultrasound, unless you don't mind making a ton of store returns if in fact your dr is wrong.
It sounds like you want the peace of mind to me, even though u/s aren't always 100% right at determining boy/girl no matter how far along you are when you have them
EDIT - peace not piece
oops!
On our anatomy scan, she was pretty small, but they were pretty sure she was a girl. On a follow up scan, she wasn't in a good position, but the tech said there were no signs of her being a boy.
I was still worried at first (especially since 2 of my friends were "supposed" to have girls and ended up having boys) but I'm going to paint her room girly and get girly clothes. If she comes out as a boy, I can always re-paint and exchange the clothes, just make sure you keep the tags.
If it was me i would def spend a lil money to Def make sure it was a girl or a boy.
Especially if i knew i was going to have a baby shower ahead of time ( it would be such a pain if i found out in the end i had to do a whole bunch of exchanges, or sell things cuz i couldn't exchange them)
Im also a big planner and i hate yellow and green.
I'm getting another for medical reasons but I fully plan on asking while I'm there because we heard the same thing. "We're pretty sure its a girl but she's keeping her legs closed, etc."
We've already told everyone its a girl anyway. If I find out on Tuesday its not I will be very surprised. They usually don't say either gender until they are pretty certain about it.
