Question About Shaking in Utero (Edited Title)

I feel silly asking this but I have been experiencing it more and more frequently and it is starting to freak me out. Usually at least once a day I will feel LO basically shaking inside of me. Sometimes it's my entire stomach, you can see it moving rapidly from the outside, and sometimes it's just in one area. I did a google search and some people suggested it was hiccups...but I think I have felt hiccups before, they are more rhythmic and in one place. This is honestly like a very rapid shaking movement and it only usually lasts for 30 seconds or so. It's unlike any of the normal rolling or kicking/punching I usually feel.

I have my 28w check up with my doctor today so I am going to ask her, but I thought I would ask on here as well and see if anyone else has experienced it or knows what it might be. TIA!

  • With my first I would feel like a shaking now and then.  Even after he came out, he had this weird muscular thing where, when we pressed on the bottom of his right foot, it would have kind of a spasm for a second or two and then stop.  We took him to a pediactric neurologist who said he would probably grow out of it and he did.

  • I have felt this; it can be like shaking or rapid kicking/punching/flailing or even feel like vibrating. Same for me, lasts about 10-30 seconds.

Based on the response that it come somehow be a neurological issue, I really hope you update with what your OB says! I see mine Monday, maybe I should ask, too.

  • I have it too. It feels like rapid punches or something. Newborn babies have some weird neurologic things they do anyway, so I'm not too worried about it.

  • There was a post on this about a week ago, I think, and somebody posted a rationale that they had googled. I think the overall consensus was its probably normal but ask your Dr anyway.

  • I think it's normal.  During this pregnancy and with DS I sometimes felt like they were having seizures in my stomach. I remember seeing people posting about it last time because they were worried.  It seems pretty common.

  • Last week, we discussed this feeling and many said it was a uterine spasm.

  • I am pretty sure it's just your LO having fun. I get it usually when I lay down- she shakes for a few seconds and I swear it makes the bed shake.

This baby is WAY more active than DS was in utero... I always thought everyone felt kicks the same, but that's not true. If you're concerned, ask your OB. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

  • I experience this too! It kinda freaks me out but I just figured it was normal. I didn't know how to explain it to anyone.
