OMG Please help me stop this cough!!!

DH came home with a cold earlier this week, and somehow I have managed to pick up the most irritating, dry, hacking cough ever since then.  I don't have any other cold symptoms, but I CAN'T STOP COUGHING!!!  I don't know what's safe to take and my doctor hasn't called me back all day, and I don't know if there are other "natural" remedies for a cough... Gah, help!!!

  • A gal I know that's ~35 weeks had a horrible dry cough that made her Yak...turns out it was HORRIBLE Acid Reflux. Maybe that's to blame? Maybe talk to your dr?

  • My doctor told me that just regular Robitussin is safe to use for a cough. Hope you feel better!

  • I had that cough earlier this week (which lead to full on flu-like thing and dehydration).

I know Robitussin (alcohol free) and Sudafed are on the okay list, but I just drank lots of tea with lemon and coughed my brains out.  I wish you better luck than I had!

  • Robitussin DM is what my MW told me to take when I couldn't get rid of my cough.  Tea with honey also helps.  I had my cough for 7 weeks because the girls at work kept passing it back and forth.  Good luck!

  • I had a horrible cough about a month ago, it was so bad I lost my voice for 5 days! Doctor told me to take Robitussin DM, but honestly that stuff did not help. :( I ended up eating whole lemons (I craved for them), also drinking lots of tea with honey.
  • get a humidifier for your room at night!
  • I'm just getting over the flu and have the same lingering cough.  During the day I've been eating spoonfuls of honey as needed just like cough syrup.  It helps with any sore throat the coughing causes too.  I use local honey (harvested within 30 miles of where I live) because it can help build up your immunity to local allergens when taken regularly so I consider it a 2 -for-1 remedy.  I did this where we lived before and had almost no allergies after a few weeks of taking it.

At night, I've actually been trying out the vapo-rub on your feet remedy.  You slather the stuff on the bottom of your bare feet and put on socks before bed and within 5 minutes the coughing stops completely.  I'm not 100% certain why it works but I've read that it might derive from an ancient Chinese remedy that used camphor salves in a similar way.   All I know fir sure is that it's been working for me this week, but only at night when I'm lying down.
