Would this bother you? FB comment

This was through a friend of mine's tagged photo...

The grandma's page had pictures up of her new grandbaby and the parents and rest of the family, you know the drill.  Anyways, one of the grandma's friends commented on a picture "You look more like the parents than the grandparents"

If that were me and I read that, especially if it were my IL's, I'd be smoking mad/sad.  I'm sensitive like that though.

  • I get the impression she was complimenting them on their appearance. You look too young to be grandparents. Now OMG why are your kids such shitty parents that you have to raise the kid.

  • Was she just trying to compliment them, insinuating that they look young? I wouldn't be mad about that.

I believe this is what they meant, people say that to my parents also. My parents look younger than their age and my mother always is mistaken for being my sister when we go out together.  I hope I have her luck!

I think this is the case, b/c yes they do look young.

I was just sensitive when I had DS1&2 b/c it was as if I was missing from their DNA according to my MIL.  She never thinks they look like me or my family which, sorry they do.  I remember with DS1 she kept saying "where did he get blue eyes from", ah-hem, his mom! I was thinking it could be interpreted that way too.  Like I said though, I'm hormonal and that's my excuse :)

  • A random lady at the store the other day asked my mom whose baby LO was (my mom was holding him, I was standing next to her). Made my mom's entire day that someone thought she looked young enough to have a newborn.

I'm sure she just meant "You don't look old enough to be a grandma." I didn't even realize there would be another way to interpret that until pp mentioned it.

My MIL is the same way. She swears Jude looks like his dad who has brown almond eyes, dark curly hair, thin lips and the typical jew nose. Jude has blonde hair, big eyes, full lips and a button nose, just like my twin brother.

  • She was complimenting them on how young they look...it wasn't a rude comment.
