I Went To My First Birthing Class Last Night...

... and DF cracked me up. He was nervous I could tell and asked if we had to go. I told him he put the baby in there and now he has to help learn how to get her out! lol

We were in there with 5 other couples and we are the only couple having a girl! :) All the other mothers put my lil bump to shame though, I thought mine was big but its really not. My mom never got very big with any of her 6 pregnancies so I guess Im just taking after her.

About halfway through the class we were watching an animated video illustrating how the contractions squeeze the baby and make you dialate. I glanced over at DF and this was the exact look on his face: Indifferent He looked terrified, he whisprered "Will she be ok? Is it gonna hurt her to be squished like that?!" I told him Im sure she'd be fine, that babies have always been born that way.

Then we get to the lay of the baby and were going over anterior, posterior and the stations. The instructor was using the dummy baby and the pelvis prop and kept pushing the baby through to give an example of each position. DF flinched every time the baby"s head popped through, he looked at me and said "Babe Im sooo sorry" I really thought he might cry, I felt so bad for him! He kept saying "How can you make sure shes laying the right way? Will they give you an u/s and like move her if shes not?" Hes terrified she will come out face up and have a bruised face.

The funniest thing was when they showed the time line photos of how the farther you get the baby will start to get in position for delivery. DF was regarding the photos thoughtfully and asked exactly how many weeks along I was. I told him 27 and he flipped out! "What? Your27 weeks?! Oh wow I mean wow youre 27 weeks! Babe! We only have like 12 weeks, 12! We dont have a crib yet! We need to trade in the car! We're not ready, we need to go to the store, we dont have anything yet!" I could not help but laugh he was in full panic mode! I told him to calm down, we have plenty of time to get the crib up and that 12 weeks is really 3 months so its not as short as it seems. He has been in like male nesting mode since last night. All he can talk about getting ready for his 'little princess' (I melt when he calls her that!)

They gave us a book to take home and last night DF highlighted the section on hypervenilating. I asked what he was doing and he said "Im memorizing the signs so I dont pass out in the delivery room. Im really scared" I assured him that Im much more afraid then he is and he goes 'You cant be scared! When youre scared you tense up and have more pain, its the vicious pain circle, he said so in class!" I told him as my support person he needed to help me relax and he cant freak out like that. He said "Do what I say, not what I do!" lol

I keep trying to envision my delivery and the scene that runs through my mind is very sitcom-esque, complete with corny jokes and studio audience. Laugh and applause on command, ladies and gentlemen this is going to be fun!! lol
