I never thought I'd say that but this time it's true. I was in a car accident on Monday and fractured my L5 vertabrae (the bottom most one). It was pretty scary and I was super lucky to walk away with just bumps and bruises and one fractured vertabrae. I'd post the pic of the car but I have no idea how to do that. So, needless to say I am glad I was not pregnant as a baby most likely would not have survived the crash. I got a voicemail from my OB Monday evening stating that they wanted another blood test as the 2nd one that I took was also inconclusive. However, the hospital had to also run a blood test before doing a catscan and some XRays and that one was negative. I also got my period the day after I took the 2nd test. But now i am in a back brace, not able to drive or work for 6-12 weeks. We also have to put off TTC as it will take longer for my back to really heal well enough to be able to accommodate a pregnancy. I am very sad that we have to wait to get pregnant but feel very blessed to have walked away from this whole thing.

Yikes! Glad you're ok. I had a spinal fusion at L5 about 15 months ago...very painful area. I had to wait a full year after the surgery before TTC because my Dr didn't think my back would be able to handle being pregnant. (Not that I think you'll have to wait a year - don't worry!!! I only had to wait that long because it takes 6+ months for the bone to fully fuse and the pressure of the baby weight could have hindered that progress.) Take care of yourself!

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident, but it's great that you walked away with only minor injuries. I hope that you feel better soon.

Where am I going? And why am I in this handbasket?
I am so sorry about your accident. I broke my L5 a few years back and it is very important that you follow dr. orders and be very vigilant about not lifting etc.... I have a lot of scare tissue around my old break and when I was pregnant it was VERY painful. I was not told about all the percautions to take after my break and probably did to much to soon! Take time and heal up! Feel better soon! Glad you are doing good!
