more bad bloodwork

I called and got my AMH levels that I had drawn on Monday

AMH = 0.41

I am in the "very low" catagory. Not a huge shock with my FSH values, but it just reinforces that IVF may not even be an option for us. I will still do the CD3 AFC next cycle, but I am considering scrapping the Clomid challenge test. Seems pointless. And just another way for my RE to tell me that I don't really qualify at their center.

  • sorry you are having bad blood work.  You may want to start doing wheat grass shots.  I have been reading a lot of info that wheat grass really helps egg quality.

  • Jen,

    I'm sorry the AMH wasn't better news. Try not to get discouraged though. It really depends on how you respond to meds. Just keep repeating that phrase. I agree that I'd skip the clomid challenge. It isn't going to tell you something you don't already know.There are doctors who will treat you so if your current doctor wants to exclude you for your levels, you don't want him anyway.  I know you have the issue of being restricted to a few places for insurance purposes and  I totally get that. We would not be doing treatment if we had to pay OOP. My heart goes out to all who have to pay OOP. I would try to do an injectible IUI next cycle just to get your feet wet. Hang in there!!

    well, the caveat is that the military will accept me into one of their programs IF my FSH is less than 12. So at this point, I don't qualify.

    So, we would be totally OOP. I believe some medications are covered. Thus why I think IUI may even be a waste of time (and money) if we are just going to need the "big guns".

     thanks, as always, ladies, for the support!

    Argh-- that is ridiculous that 12 is the cut-off!!  Unbelievable.  Definitely try the wheat grass and keep doing the acunpunture. It may get your FSH down under 12 (even if it is a 'fake' under 12). I think the cut-offs are for that specific cycle (ie not that you are excluded forever because you are at 15 now. If you know you are going to be OOP, I'd run to a new doctor that is FSH friendly.  You mentioned the other place in your city that your friend works at?

  • I so hear you.  My AMH is .42, so we are in pretty much the same boat.  On the advice of my RE, I am taking 75 mg of DHEA per day--the only supplement she specifically recommended, and she says the results for both egg quality and egg quantity can be very good.  We are going ahead with IVF (and yes, OOP, but we have family support for the one) as soon as we can, since I'm not ready to give up on my eggs yet.  I'm also doing acupuncture.

    I have been dealing with this--and it took a while for it to sink in and not be traumatically upsetting--largely by telling myself that it is not the end.  The AMH number gives an idea of how you *may* respond to the fertility drugs used for IVF.  It is not a number that tells you you can no longer get (or stay) pregnant.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  (And in fact I *did* just get pregnant via my 6th and last IUI, though it was unfortunately ectopic and potentially non-viable due to egg quality from the start anyway, though I'll never know).  At any rate, I'm saying to myself "ok, we'll try IVF, and if that doesn't work, it doesn't mean we stop trying naturally."
